Sunset from Cumberland Island, GA, over salt marsh. This particular high tide was at the summer solstice in 1974 which was one of the highest tides in 100 years. Of course this view has changed since then. The hanging grape vines have died and fallen from the live oak, and the edge of the marsh is now populated by 15 foot tall myrtle bushes. In addition the King's Bay Submarine Base now occupies the left hand third of the horizon across the intracoastal waterway on the Georgia mainland.
