I believe that we are all capable of profound transformation at any stage in our lives. The relationships and events of our childhoods typically have a deep impact in shaping our attitudes and beliefs about ourselves and our world. Gaining insight into and getting resolution on how our early experiences continue to impact us can be an important part of change. Expressing and reprocessing painful feelings related to that time in our lives can lead to healing as well.

But our work together isn't really about the past.  It's about what you want for your life now, and into the future.  It's about reclaiming joy and self-expression, finding love and satisfaction in relationships, and discovering and living out a work path the truly suits you as an individual. It's about living into your dreams and having an overall sense of peace and contentment about yourself and your life.

Therapy with me may involve uncovering and clearing out old feelings, beliefs and patterns that are standing in your way.  It may include getting a better understanding of your strengths and abilities so you can know what path to pursue in life.  It may mean learning specific new skills for how to manage stress, prevent depression, end procrastination, communicate better with family members and co-workers, and parent your children.

My stance as a therapist is one of respect and curiosity. While I will use my expertise to help guide your process, and with your permission will at times make suggestions, my belief is that the greatest power for change lies not in myself as the therapist, but in the people who come to consult with me. This is as true for young people as it is for adults.

While I am experienced in and use standard therapeutic models and techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic therapy,  I work most with Lifespan Integration and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. This is because those are the modalities I am seeing provide faster and more complete healing for my clients.  I also do Shamanic Counseling for those interested in adding a spiritual dimension to their therapeutic work.  Please click on the menu bar at the left of this page to find out more about these therapeutic modalities so that you can get a sense of whether they might be a fit for you.
