I have purchased the microfilms of this newspaper for the years indicated and will be adding information as I have time to
transcribe it.
As of today, June 2, 2004, I have finished 1855, 1856, 1857, 1859 (all issues from 1858 are missing), 1860 and through
February 7 of 1861. Most of the other years have some entries also, but they are unsystematic.
NEW!! May 20, 2004: I just took a small diversion and transcribed a reel of the earliest newspaper I could find for the area.

Note: I have transcribed most entries exactly as they were spelled, except for a few obvious typos like "adn" for "and", etc.
If, as sometimes happened, a surname was spelled two different ways in the same issue of the paper, I have transcribed them
both. I have also stuck to the use of capital letters as it was in the newspaper. Typically, but not always, the name of the
principle person concerned was in capitals. Occasionally, there was a part of the newspaper in such bad shape that I couldn't
read it, or was unsure about part of it. For those, I have inserted (?) in the text. Asides from me are in [square brackets].
In order to get this up as quickly as possible, I have chosen to leave out certain things. I have not included all of the
legal notices, except divorce petitions, nor have I included the numerous records of estray animals taken up by various people,
interesting though it might be for their descendants. Maybe one day I will go back and fill in that information, but not until
I have finished the rest. Legal notices that appeared for several issues in a row are usually only noted the first time they
appear.
The site is not searchable, but I have put a list of surnames at the top of each page, so you can tell at a glance if there
might be any information there on the person you are looking for.

Note: I do not know anything about the people mentioned other than what I have transcribed, with the exception of my
own lines of SHERMAN and CARRICO (and not much about them, either...). I don't live anywhere near Indiana, so cannot find
additional information. I hope these references can help answer some questions for you and contribute to your knowledge of
the people of 19th century Sullivan County.
