What is the difference between Swedish massage and Shiatsu
massage? |
| A: |
Swedish massage based on the Western concepts of anatomy and
physiology and employs the traditional manipulative techniques of
effleurage, petrissage, vibration, friction, and tapotement. Shiatsu
massage, Japanese style, a finger pressure method, is based on the
Oriental concept that the body has a series of energy (tsubo)
points. When pressure is properly applied to these points,
circulation is improved and nerves are stimulated. Shiatsu is said
to improve body metabolism and to relieve a number of physical
disorders. |
