POSTCARD FROM THE LEDGE

been thinking of you,
hoping you're well
and having a swell time, too,
grooving,
like in all those old-time movies,
you know,
gene-kellying in the rain,
making it plain that this is life
you're living,
not some game -
falling up and down stairs (again)
living in rarified air, intense;
breathing immensely pure O2 -
all these are my wishes for you
and oh, another thing too -
may tears fall sometimes from the sky,
but from your eye,
may it be rare
to see you
crying.

YOU
THERE
YOUR PLACE
