IFS AND BUT

If you were an ambulance,
like a dog I'd chase you.

If you were an engine,
like an ace I'd race you.

If you were an ice-berg,
like the sun I'd thaw you.

If you were ostracised,
I wouldn't ignore you.

If you were a chess-game,
like a master I'd play you.

If you were an egg,
like a hen I'd lay you.

If you were a god,
oh, how I'd adore you,

but the truth is ,
I can't have  what I want;

the facts are before me;

you aren't,
so I can't.
