Johnny Sangster - Producer-Engineer/Guitarist/Tambourinist/Keyboard Hack etc.

Born 1965 - Seattle, WA

- took up the ukulele

- first guitar.

- classical guitar lessons. Listening to Elton John and the Who. Older brother Jim spinning Credence, Mott the Hoople and Montrose. Father spinning Dylan, John Prine and Willie Nelson.

- Lopez Island, no TV for a year. First electric - a telecaster copy. Led Zeppelin mania. Saving for a Les Paul. Met Jonathan Stibbard who I would play music with for the next 20 years.

- Xmas Break. Jim's home from college for Xmas and brings the first Clash record and Never Mind the Bullocks. Goodbye classic rock. Making recordings with a 2 track 1/4" machine permanently borrowed from Lopez Island High School.

to 83 - Got a Teac SynCassette - cassette two track and made lots of home "masterpieces". Seattle punk shows, played as the RPMs, later as the Sharing Patrol. Recorded our first release - a cassette for PopLlama Records.

to 97- Jonathan and I relocated to Copenhagen Denmark. Started playing with Henrik Tuxen. Recorded for local Sonet Records and later for EMI Denmark and then Sundance Records. Toured Scandinavia, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland and the Soviet Union.

- First production credit for the Little Triggers album on Sony Music Denmark.

- The Sharing Patrol spent a few weeks in Seattle and made a record with Kurt Bloch producing. Began thinking it could be nice to live in Seattle again.

- More production credits. Worked cleaning office buildings in the middle of the night. Joined musicians union and gigged several nights a week. Tried to be a grown up.

- Moved back to Seattle. Got a job testing software for local tech giant. Started engineering at Egg Studio.

- Quit the tech job to engineer and produce full time. Early stuff at Egg included the Posies Success record and the Nevada Bachelors debut. Also got to record the Supersuckers, Fireballs of Freedom, Dr. Explosion, Gerald Collier and lots of local garage and punk.

- Produced the Makers "Rock Star God" for Sub Pop records. Thought I was pretty cool now!

- Joined the Dear John Letters with Robb Benson from the Nevada Bachelors continuing a collaboration that still exists today.

- Recorded a few songs for Mudhoney's Since We've Become Translucent. This led to working on Steve Turner's solo debut - Searching For Melody which in turn led to playing music with him. Further collaboration with Mudhoney came later as well as a few tours for Steve and I. 2004's "And His Bad Ideas" and 2006's New Wave Punk Asshole are personal highlights for me.

- The Briefs "Sex Objects". Awesome.

- Began playing with Mark Pickerel after spending a week in Spain and London with him. Jim Sangster and Margrethe Bjørklund later joined as the band was dubbed "His Praying Hands".

- Formed the Tripwires with John Ramberg at the helm, Jim Sangster on Bass and Mark Pickerel on Drums. Also this year saw the opening of Audio Bardahl (now known as Crackle &Pop!). Andrew Smith and I pooled our gear together and were later joined by Scott Masoner to start this very cool overdubbing studio in Ballard WA.

- Busiest year ever. Obama elected! Made records with the Whoremoans, Andrea Wittgens, The Cops, Shane Tutmarc, The Wages of Sin, Mudhoney, Dept. of Energy, North Twin, The Young Sportsmen, and more!

- Bring it on!
