ACT ONE, SCENE FOUR

SETTING: The elegant house from earlier. Hampton, Parker, and LuAnn are questioning DeLaine and Heathcliff when Bubba comes in from talking to J.D.

DeLAINE: (Seeing Bubba enter) My, my, Monsieur Forbes. I must commend you and your officers on your impeccable taste and refinement. I was not aware that small town gendarme dressed formally for murder investigations.

HAMPTON: (Smiling) They normally don't, but tonight was a special occasion for our department and we were pulled away from that.

HEATHCLIFF: We offer our most sincerest apologies. (Gripping his chin) Costas always was a most inconvenient kind of fellow, even in death.

BUBBA: That's not necessarily a wise thing to say considering he's dead.

DeLAINE: And why ever not. (Gesturing) I speak the truth when I say that none of us would be here if we did not like Costas and Costas did not like us.

PARKER: (Puzzled) I don't understand. (Looking around) All of you were here in his house , eating his food and playing a friendly game of cards at his invitation. Around here that says friendship.

HEATHCLIFF: And in most other places, as well. But not with Costas. (Pausing) You didn't receive an invitation unless he had information and intentions that could ruin you. If you were lucky, you won and picked up a nice pot and a guarantee that your information would never see the light of day. (Shrugging) Of course, if you lost, how shall I put this, you might end up in the same shape as most of the British Royal Family. (Sarcastically) What can I say. Diana absolutely reeked at poker and that last tell-all book by her former lover really changed a lot of people's opinions of her.

HAMPTON: (Embarrassed) Yes, well. (Looking at his pad) Who actually found the body?

HEATHCLIFF: Miss Highbridge. Keele Zimmer's latest ... acquaintance.

BUBBA: Where's Mr. Zimmer and Miss Highbridge, now?

KEELE: (From behind them) I'm right here. (Moving into the group) You'll have to excuse Miss Highbridge. She isn't feeling up to any questions after finding him the way she did.

LUANN: I think I'll go and see if there's anything she needs. (Nodding at Hampton as she leaves)

HAMPTON: Mr. Zimmer, we've already heard from your colleagues about their feelings toward the deceased. Is there anything else you'd like to add?

KEELE: (Looking at the other two) Only that both Mr. Clifton and myself had our secrets out on the table. (Shrewdly) Madame Ajoulais did not.

DeLAINE: (Upset) What are you implying, Keele?

KEELE: Nothing, DeLaine, except that at the table, you were the only one who vocalized murdering him for spreading your secret. (To everyone) You see, there was someone in this "hamlet" that DeLaine didn't want her info told to. She was very adamant about that, almost frightened.

HEATHCLIFF: Oh come on, Keele. She might have been the only one to say it out loud, but she sure as hell wasn't the only one thinking about it!

KEELE: (Angrily) No, but she was the only one who struck him. (Moving toward the woman) I refuse to be grilled because she couldn't control some personal vendetta!

HAMPTON: (Blocking him) That will be enough! (Turning to the others) I suggest all of you try to get a good night's rest, so that you can control these outbursts before you come down to the station. (At Keele's snort of disgust) This is an ongoing investigation that requires full statements from you all. At ten tomorrow morning, I expect to see each and every one of you at the police station. (Looking around) You're free to go, but if any of you don't show up, I will personally drive a squad car to escort you. Is that understood? (At their nods) Good and good night.

The gentlemen head off in to their respective places, but DeLaine continues to stand there.

DeLAINE: Excuse me, Monsieur Forbes. Would you mind helping me?

HAMPTON: Yes, Ma'am. What can I do for you?

DeLAINE: Is it possible for you to arrange somewhere else for me to stay? I don't feel comfortable being in this house after what happened and with Keele's feelings.

HAMPTON: I understand Mrs. ... um (Struggling to find her name in his notepad)

DeLAINE: LeClerc - Ajoulais. (Holding out her hand) DeLaine LeClerc-Ajoulais.

BUBBA: (Overhearing) Did you say Ajoulais?

DeLAINE: (Nervously) LeClerc-Ajoulais. (Trying to cover) You pronounce it like a native. Parlez-vous Francais?

BUBBA: (Sheepishly) Uh ... no, not very well, Ma'am. I only know a few things I picked up from my fiancee. When I heard your name, I thought there might be a connection between you and her and her family.

DeLAINE: (Faintly) Fiancee. (Breathlessly) You and Jhourdhaun are to be married?

BUBBA: (Suspicious) You do know Jhourdhaun, then?

DeLAINE: (Disturbed) Yes. (Sighing) I had hoped when I received my invitation that I could keep her unaware of all of this. (Thinking aloud) Now, I see that is not possible.

BUBBA: I'm going to ask you again, Ma'am. Do you know Jhourdhaun?

DeLAINE: My family has known her family for generations. In fact, for several years, I was a part of them. (Smiling) I was Godmother to both Ada and Ashelei and I opened my home to Ashelei when Jhourdhaun was born. (Taking Bubba's hand) Since you're going to be a part of the family, I suppose I must issue a formal introduction. (Pausing) I am the first Madame Ajoulais, but you can call me what Jhourdhaun does, ... Granmere!

ACT TWO, SCENE ONE

SETTING: The Asheley estate. It is very late and very few lights can be seen from the driveway. As Hampton's car glides around the bend, the outdoor lights illuminate the front door.

BUBBA: (Helping DeLaine out of the car) Well, is it how you remember?

DeLAINE: (With tears in her eyes) Very much. (Looking up at the windows) This house has a lot of memories attached to it. (Walking with him to the front door) Some good, some bad but all remarkable. (Turning to Hampton) Are you sure they're awake? The house looks very still.

HAMPTON: (Catching up with them and ringing the doorbell) This house always looks like that. I promise I called them just before we headed over this way.

After a few seconds, the foyer light comes on. A man's shape can be seen through the windows.

GARRETT: (Opening the door) Chief Forbes, we've been expecting you. (Moving aside to let the others in) Captain Skinner? I had no idea you were with the Chief. That should alleviate any stressors that Miss Jhourdhaun will feel at this very late call. (Turning to look at the last person) And ... (Shocked) Madame Ajoulais! What on earth are you doing here? Miss Jhourdhaun didn't mention you were coming for a visit.

DeLAINE: (Smiling at him) That is probably because I did not tell her I would be in this area.

GARRETT: (Showing them into the drawing room) Can I get any of you refreshments?

BUBBA: No, thanks, Garrett. (Looking around) Where's Jhourdhaun? She's had plenty of time since the call to have been waiting for us.

GARRETT: (Sheepishly) I must confess, Captain Skinner, Tully did not choose to wake her until she heard the bell.

TULLY: (Walking into the room) With her coming in so late from the reception and all of the other activities, I felt she needed to get as much rest as possible. (Glaring at Bubba as he tries to speak) And don't you dare say anything to me, Bubba Skinner, about overprotecting her. Until you officially take over, I run this house and protect her the way I see fit!

DeLAINE: (Clapping) Brava, Tully.

TULLY: Thank you, Madame Ajoulais. (Walking over to her and giving her a European kiss) Welcome back to Sparta and Asheley.

DeLAINE: Thank you. (Curious) Should it be taking my granddaughter this long to greet us? (Concerned) Has our coming here caused her any distress?

TULLY: Of course not, Madame. She's exhausted from the whirlwind of activities going on this last few days. It has taken a small toll on her and so she's not really moving at her regular speed.

BUBBA: Maybe I should go and check on her.

JHOURDHAUN: (Quietly entering the room) No need; I'm here. (Moving to greet him) I know it was late but did you have to cause such a stir coming home? Tully's been fussing about all of our late hours and (Finally looking around) I'm sorry, Hampton, I didn't see you or your guest there... (Recognizing the older woman) Granmere? (Moving to her side) What are you doing here?

DeLAINE: (Kissing her) Getting myself into a lot of trouble.

JHOURDHAUN: (Confused and looking to the others for understanding) What? What kind of trouble could you possibly be in?

HAMPTON: (Preparing to leave) I'll let your grandmother fill you in. I have to be getting home because we're taking statements at ten tomorrow. (Turning to the young woman) I know you'll see that she'll be there. (Leaving) Bubba, would you like a lift home?

BUBBA: (Embarrassed and standing) Uhh ... let me show you out. (Walking with Hampton to the door) Hamp, this isn't what you think.

HAMPTON: (Patting him on the arm) Of course not, my friend.

BUBBA: (Opening the door for him) I'm serious. (Sighing) Yes, I am living here, but there are about twenty bedrooms in this place and I'm not sleeping in Jhourdhaun's. (At Hampton's skeptical look) Do you honestly think that I could possibly be with Jhourdhaun with Tully in the house and sleeping in the next room?

HAMPTON: (Loosing the grin) I get your point. (Pausing) Well, I'm going to say good night and please pass it around to the others. (Turning back) At this time I'd usually say have fun, but I don't think that's going to be possible. I'll see you at nine thirty sharp.

BUBBA: (Closing the door and reentering the drawing room) Hampton said to tell everyone good night.

JHOURDHAUN: (Smiling but pale) I wanted to thank him for bringing Granmere here.

BUBBA: (Moving beside her) I think he knew. (Looking at everyone) Well, did everything get explained?

DeLAINE: Yes, it did, though I have a feeling not completely to Jhourdhaun's liking.

JHOURDHAUN: Well, you do have to admit there are some gaping holes in what you told me.

DeLAINE: (Standing) All I have to admit is that I am old (Sighing) and tired. Tully, would you be so kind as to show me a place where I can freshen up?

JHOURDHAUN: Tully, could you and Garrett please help my grandmother to the Talion suite. (Moving to kiss the older woman) Good night, Granmere. I hope you have pleasant dreams so that we can paint a clear and concise picture for the police in the morning.

DeLAINE: (Taking Garrett's arm) Good night, Mon Ami. And to you, Captain Skinner.

Bubba and Jhourdhaun watch as they leave. As soon as they have cleared the stairs, Bubba closes the door and takes Jhourdhaun in his arms.

BUBBA: So, you're representing your grandmother. (Tilting her face upwards) Are you up to this?

JHOURDHAUN: (Moving away from him and to the family portrait above the mantel) I have to. She's been there for me and mine for as long as I can remember and beyond. I can't let her down now. (Turning back to look at him) How bad does it look?

BUBBA: Honestly, (Watching her) pretty bad. She threatened him, hit him and demanded a break right before he was killed. (Pausing) I think she's probably going to be our prime,

JHOURDHAUN: Oh, God! (Collapsing as Bubba moves to catch her) Oh, God, no.

BUBBA: (Picking her up and carrying her to the settee) It's gonna be all right. Okay. Just try to calm down and not think of the worst.

JHOURDHAUN: (Looking up at him with tears in her eyes) How can I not think the worst when it's staring me right in the face? (Exhausted) I'm so tired. (Sighing) I'm not sure I can deal with this. But if I don't, who else would represent her the way I would! I mean, she is my grandmother! (Closing her eyes as Bubba bends to kiss her forehead) Right now, you're the most stable thing in my life. You're the only thing holding me here. (Holding him tighter) Please don't let go!

They continue to sit that way as the light fades.

ACT TWO, SCENE TWO

SETTING: Sparta Police Department. Bubba, Hampton, Jhourdhaun and DeLaine are seated in the interrogation room.

HAMPTON: So, that's how it stands now. (Pausing) As you can see, the evidence strongly points to you, Madame Ajoulais.

JHOURDHAUN: In as much as circumstantial evidence can point to anyone's guilt.

HAMPTON: (Looking directly at her) People have been convicted on less.

BUBBA: (Trying to alleviate the tension) What do you have to say about this, Madame?

DeLAINE: (Smiling) First, that you should call me, Granmere. Second, yes, I did hit him. (Shrugging in Gallic fashion) He was behaving as an oaf. In my circles, if one is not behaving in a befitting manner, someone may strike that person to bring him/her to his/her senses.. It is not uncommon. (Pausing) Besides, I have struck Costas many times before and he's never ended up dead.

HAMPTON: Yes, but according to Mr. Zimmer, you had something to lose this time.

DeLAINE: (Abruptly) No more than I've ever had to lose with Costas. (Angrily) Keele is just irritated that my information will remain hidden.

HAMPTON: That may be the case, but you made some pretty specific threats against him last night to keep it that way.

DeLAINE: (Angrily) You assume that last night was the first time he threatened me with exposure. Your assumption is quite wrong. Costas has been threatening me for over twenty years.

JHOURDHAUN: (Shocked) Granmere! You never mentioned that!

DeLAINE: (Comforting her) I am sorry, Mon Cher. Costas was my problem, not yours. I did not want you involved in my nastiness. I ...

JHOURDHAUN: (Interrupting her) Don't say any more!

DeLAINE: (Confused) But, why?

BUBBA: Because you've supplied us with a stronger motive. (At her strange look) Your wanting to protect Jhourdhaun by not wanting to involve her is an excellent starting point. The D.A. can simply use what Mr. Zimmer said about Mr. Costas using the information to hurt someone close to you as your motive.

DeLaine questions Jhourdhaun in French and Jhourdhaun responds. They carry on a conversation like that for a few minutes more.

JHOURDHAUN: (Shuffling a few papers) Gentlemen, I don't think my client has anything else to say at the moment. I would appreciate our being allowed to leave so that we may recoup.

Parker knocks and enters the room. He excuses himself and hands a paper to Hampton.

HAMPTON: (Reading the note and answering grimly) I'm afraid that's not going to be possible, Counselor. (Pausing) Mr. Darnell has requested that we book Mme. Ajoulais and she be held for arraignment. (Sighing) I am truly sorry.

ACT TWO, SCENE THREE

SETTING: The Asheley house. It is two days later and DeLaine and Jhourdhaun are in the sitting room drinking tea.

JHOURDHAUN: Okay, Granmere. What is all of this about?

DeLAINE: Are you asking as my lawyer or my granddaughter?

JHOURDHAUN: (Irritated) Does that matter?

DeLAINE: Unfortunately, yes.

JHOURDHAUN: (Shaking her head) I'm beginning to wonder if my father was right in questioning my taking this case. (Sighing) You do realize that I'm trying to help you?

DeLAINE: Of course. I am not so old that I cannot recognize help when it comes.

JHOURDHAUN: Then why are you fighting me on this? (Standing and pacing) I don't know where I stand with this case. I keep expecting this horrible secret to suddenly reveal itself and condemn you. (Looking directly at her) I don't want that to happen. (Pleading) Won't you help me so that it won't?

DeLAINE: (Sadly) With all of my heart, I wish I could ease your pain, but I can't. (Sniffling) If I must sacrifice myself to protect you, then I will. No matter what.

ACT TWO, SCENE FOUR

SETTING: The police department. The regular complement is on duty.

GENNA: (Entering and walking to the counter) Excuse me.

DEE: Yes, Ma'am. How can I help you?

GENNA: (Nervously) I need to talk to the officer in charge of the Costas investigation.

DEE: And what is this pertaining to?

GENNA: I have some information about DeLaine Ajoulais that might help the case.

DEE: Just a minute, please. (She enters Hampton's office where he, Bubba and the Sheriff are sitting and talking. They converse and she heads back to the counter) Chief Forbes would like to talk with you. (Walking to the end of the counter) If you'll please follow me.

They enter the inner office and the gentlemen stand. Dee leaves.

HAMPTON: (Shaking her hand) Welcome, Miss Highbridge. (Pointing to the others) I think you remember Captain Skinner. And, I'm sure you've already heard of our Sheriff of Newman County, Bill Gillespie. (Waiting as they settle down) Now, what can we do you for?

GENNA: Well, I'm not meaning to cause any trouble.

BUBBA: No, Ma'am, we didn't think you did.

GILLESPIE: Dee said that you had something to add to the Costas investigation. That definitely couldn't be considered trouble, ... only help.

GENNA: (More confident) Well, you see, Keele didn't know that Stellas had declared me the hostess of the game. (At Hampton's confused look) That just means that I held on to the papers with the secrets on them until they were needed to seed the pot.

HAMPTON: How did you get this job?

GENNA: Oh, he just picked the prettiest piece of fluff at the game and declared her the hostess, or so he said. I never really questioned him about it.

BUBBA: What exactly does all of this have to do with the investigation?

GENNA: I'm sorry. If I don't concentrate on one thing I tend to ramble. (Giggling) Sort of like now. I'm just so nervous. I've never had to talk to the police and it's got me very ...

HAMPTON: (Interrupting) Miss Highbridge!

GENNA: Oh, yeah. Well, like I said, I had the papers and so I peaked at them just so that I would have an idea which pot they belonged in. Well, to make a long story short, I know what Mrs. Ajoulais' big secret is.

HAMPTON: (Sitting forward) Are you sure that what you know is correct?

GENNA: Stellas always kept excellent records, and he never wrote down anything that wasn't important. He always said that anything other than what was important only clouded the questions and confused the pot.

HAMPTON: I'm sure he did. (Signaling for Dee) Miss Highbridge, I'd like you to tell what you know on tape, if you don't mind.

GENNA: No, I don't mind. (Looking around) I knew something like this was going to happen and so I was prepared.

ACT TWO, SCENE FIVE

SETTING: The Asheley estate. Jhourdhaun is greeting Hampton, Bubba, and her father.

JHOURDHAUN: To what do we owe the honour of your presence? Has there been a break in the case?

GILLESPIE: (Moving to his daughter's side) Where's your grandmother?

JHOURDHAUN: (Suspiciously) Why? (Looking at Bubba) What's going on?

BUBBA: (Taking her in his arms) Honey, some new information has come through and the judge has revoked her bail. We've come to pick her up.

JHOURDHAUN: (Shaking her head) No. (Stepping away from him) What new information? (When no one answers, she continues) As her lawyer, I have a right to know!

DeLAINE: (Walking up) I'm a little curious about this new information, myself.

HAMPTON: Okay, ladies. (Pausing) DeLaine LeClerc-Ajoulais, it has been brought to our attention that you withheld the information that Stellas Costas was your biological son and that he held a grudge against you because you refused to raise him. Due to the nature of this information, we require that you submit to a blood test for DNA testing.

JHOURDHAUN: (Blocking Hampton's way) I think you've gone a little off. Your information is obviously incorrect. It is a well known fact that my grandmother cannot bear children. (Including all of them) I don't know where you picked up your information, but it is obviously wrong.

GILLESPIE: (Moving to the older woman's side) Is it DeLaine? Is there no truth in this?

DeLAINE: (Looking as if she has aged during the conversation) Step aside, Jhourdhaun.

JHOURDHAUN: No. (Pleading with her grandmother) Tell them that it's not true. (Grabbing her hands) Tell them, Granmere! Please!

DeLAINE: (Removing her hands and walking towards Bubba) Please stay with her. I don't think she needs to be alone now. (Turning to a defeated Jhourdhaun and touching her face) I'm sorry, cherie. I tried so hard for you not to know, but I guess all must come to light. (Raising the girl's chin) Forgive me. (Dropping her hands and preparing to leave) Lead on, gentlemen. I do believe my granddaughter needs a little time to herself and her chosen.

They leave and Bubba moves to Jhourdhaun's side and embraces her.

JHOURDHAUN: (Crying) She didn't do it. No matter what she's held back, I know she couldn't have done it!

ACT THREE, SCENE ONE

SETTING: The interrogation room at the police department. DeLaine is waiting patiently for someone.

JHOURDHAUN: (Entering with Virgil) Good morning, Granmere. (Sitting across from her) I hope you don't mind but I've asked my partner to join us. Virgil Tibbs, I'd like to introduce you to my grandmother, DeLaine LeClerc-Ajoulais. Granmere, this is Mr. Virgil Tibbs.

VIRGIL: (Extending his hand) I'm very pleased to meet you. (Nodding at Jhourdhaun) Your granddaughter has told us a lot of interesting stories about you.

DeLAINE: Forgive me my rudeness, but would she have told you the story behind her bringing in another lawyer to this case?

JHOURDHAUN: (Slamming closed her briefcase) Granmere! (Turning to Virgil) If you could excuse us for a minute. (Waiting until he leaves) What was that about? If you had any questions about my actions, you should have waited to tell me after Virgil left. Dragging an innocent into our family squabbles was uncalled for!

DeLAINE: I didn't bring him here; you did. (Sighing) I think I deserve an explanation of why you suddenly don't want to handle this case alone.

JHOURDHAUN: (Standing and running her hand through her hair) It isn't a matter of not wanting to handle the case alone. It is a matter of handling the case well. (Sighing) I want you to have the best possible defense and I believe we can achieve it with the help of Virgil. With both of us handling things, we can be prepared for anything else you might throw at us.

DeLAINE: Now, I see.

JHOURDHAUN: (Confused) What are you talking about?

DeLAINE: I'm talking about your feelings toward this case and your anger at my part in it.

JHOURDHAUN: (Angrily) Like I said, what are you talking about?

DeLAINE: You didn't even notice what you said, did you? (Responding to Jhourdhaun's look) Just a minute ago, you said, "We can be prepared for anything else you might throw at us." Not the defense. Not the police. You, as in me.

JHOURDHAUN: (Exasperated) It was a simple mistake. Stop reading more into things and start concentrating on what it's going to take to do some damage control. (Moving to the door and letting Virgil in) Thanks for waiting. (Sitting and grabbing a stack of papers) Okay, let's get started.

VIRGIL: (Taking a seat) Mme. Ajoulais, we need all of the information concerning you and Mr. Costas. (Looking at her closely) That means everything, even things you don't think are important.

DeLAINE: (Looking at her granddaughter) All right, but before I start, I need to make it clear that this is not pretty. You are going to hear some things that I never wanted you to know. Are you prepared for this?

JHOURDHAUN: I have to be. (Rubbing her temples) The time for personal feelings has passed. We have to look only to what will help prove your innocence.

DeLAINE: (Pausing) Very well. (Sighing) When I was sixteen, my parents and I made a journey from France to Canada. At that time, the only passage to be found was by steamer ship. (Shaking her head) Anyone could work on those ships as long as they knew how to keep the ship running. We had been at sea for about a week when I took ill one night. My mother wanted to stay with me, but I insisted that she attend the Captain's Ball. (Smiling sadly) Looking back, I realize that she probably had some type of premonition or something. But, for the life of me, that night I had no clue. (Stopping and staring out of the window)

JHOURDHAUN: (Covering her grandmother's hands) It's okay, Granmere. We're right here with you.

DeLAINE: (Coming back to the present) About 8:30 or so that night, I heard a noise outside of my door in our suite. I believed it was my maman checking on me, so I didn't move. It wasn't until he clamped his hand over my mouth did I realize I had been wrong. (Crying softly) I have heard that some women are lucky enough to not remember their brutalization. Unfortunately, I wasn't one of them. (Nearly whispering) I remembered every horrible move, touch and smell. (Sighing) When he finally finished, I thought I was dead because all I could do was just lay there until my parents came in. (Tightening her grip on Jhourdhaun's hands) The remainder of the trip, I spent in a daze. They brought him to me so that I could identify him and then they ... they ... hung him from the high mast as an example. (Wiping her tears away) We made it to Canada and moved in with relatives in Quebec. A few weeks later we knew that I was to bear a child. (Staring at her hands) I was repulsed. All I could think about was how that beast had come to be. I wanted so much to die, but it wasn't to be. (Looking at the younger girl) As soon as he was born, I had him sent away. I couldn't even bear the sight of him, (Pausing) especially once they told me the attack had damaged me so that I couldn't have any more children.

VIRGIL: So, how did you meet back up?

DeLAINE: (Shrugging) We didn't meet until many years later. Stellas was almost twenty. He had somehow been raised by his father's mother back in England. (Crossing her hands in front of her) Oh, how he hated me. She had raised him to believe that I had murdered his father and turned my back on him, just because his father was out of my class. (Smiling sadly) When I couldn't bear to look at him, it reaffirmed everything that his grandmother had told him. Once he found out who I had ties to, he started to make claims.

JHOURDHAUN: What kind of claims?

DeLAINE: (Looking sadly into the girl's eyes) Shortly after the birth, I was wed to your grandfather. Stellas knew the dates and he threatened to use them to claim the Ajoulais inheritance.

JHOURDHAUN: (Puzzled) How? He wasn't a biological heir.

DeLAINE: No, but he was a con artist to his soul. (Taking a deep breath) He had associates that forged birth records and other important papers to make it seem like he was born to us out of wedlock and then tossed aside. (Pausing) You see, if those papers would have surfaced, the protection clause in your grandfather's will would have gone into effect, leaving you with nothing.

VIRGIL: What did this protection clause say?

JHOURDHAUN: My grandfather wanted to provide himself with an heir no matter what. So, he added a clause in his will that stated any children born to Granmere during or immediately after their marriage would be entitled to the Ajoulais fortune. Once he married my biological grandmother and Ada was born, the last part of the clause became null, but if anyone turned up as a proven heir from their marriage, then my line received nothing.

DeLAINE: Once I realized that he knew this, our cat and mouse game began. (Pleading with Jhourdhaun) Even though I did everything in my power not to let him get his hands on your inheritance, I did not kill him. I would never do something like that to another person, not even to him.

JHOURDHAUN: (Hugging her) I believe you, Granmere. (Sighing) I just hope we can convince a jury to believe as well.
