FOCUSING RAIL: Monorail type

Using my Bender as a guide, I elected to stay with the monorail style having a fixed rear standard capable of tilt only. Two, one inch square aluminum tubes were bolted together and serve as the rail on which the camera parts reside. I chose 24" as the length, anticipating a lens in the 12" to 20" range. Large, round wooden cabinet knobs were used to tighten all movements. I drilled and mounted 3/8" Tee nuts into them, then glued in 3/8" bolts.

(The basic parts are laid out in the photo to the right.)

All of the bolts used on the camera's movements are 3/8", as is the tripod mount. The weight of the camera, about 25 pounds with the back installed, is supported on the massive tripod mount.
