This painting has many layers. It started out with many figures and evolved into a face. You can still barely see two of the figures - one on the left cheek and the other on the right. I've included a snapshot I took of it about halfway through, maybe you can still pick out some of this early layer in the final version.

The color is very rich from many transparent layers, so a detail is also included below to show the texture and color.
