Three Fawn Meadows Farm was established in 1996. Our vision is to create a model of small scale family farming that is sustainable
through preservation of the farm's natural resources, improvement of these resources through conservation practices such as
prairie restoration, timberstand improvement and selective harvest of trees, preservation of rare breeds of animals such
as the Spanish Mustang and Belted Galloway, preservation of historic buildings, and empowerment of our family and community
through education and the practice of these values and skills.

The Spanish Mustang
The Spanish Mustang derives from the horses brought to America by the Spanish Conquistadores 500 years ago. While the horse
is known to have evolved in North America some 55 million years ago, the modern horse had disappeared from this continent.
Reintroduction of the horse in 1400 A.D. revolutionized life in North America. Native Americans began to use the horse for
hunting and travel, replacing the dog as pack animal. The Spanish Mustangs of today are a group of diverse horses that derive
from breeding by nature in the harsh environment of this continent as well as directed breeding by Native Americans. "Mustang"
horses associated with the public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management are feral horses that are mixtures of breeds
of horses including horses originating from northern Europe. A few isolated pockets of true breeding horses with characteristics
of the Spanish Mustang still exist, however, their numbers are very rare. In the 1950s, the Brislawn family of Wyoming, helped
to establish the Spanish Mustang Registry as a means of saving this important breed for posterity. Our horses derive from
the breeding stock established by the Brislawn family early in the last century at their Cayuse Ranch in Oshoto, Wyoming.
The Spanish Mustangs are known for their versatility, endurance, and spiritual value (Medicine Hats). The famed horse Hildago
was a Spanish Mustang that the endurance rider Frank Hopkins used to ride thousands of miles as a champion.
