Afternoon Tea
(Not just a hot beverage...)

Why?

I went to graduate school in England and immediately adopted the custom of afternoon tea. Back then, I could pretty much eat whatever I wanted because I was going to walk or row if off anyway. I was also 22, which didn’t hurt.

Unfortunately, afternoon tea means scones, cakes and pastries which are full of bad carbs. Not to mention that afternoon tea tends to be an additional meal sandwiched between an early lunch and late dinner, and can be bigger than both meals combined.

But, afternoon tea is a sophisticated ritual. It is a time for people (especially women) to sit down for a nice, long chat over delectable morsels. I’ve had my best, and most meaningful conversations with my mom over steaming English breakfast and a warm scone. It’s also a great entertainment option for a bridal and baby showers.

I’ve decided to continue my custom of taking afternoon tea with friends. Only this time, I can stick to my diet.
