The flight from China to LAX was uneventful. Sadira slept the entire way, got cranky a little, and we landed.
After a tolerable wait at the airport terminal for immigration paperwork, custom checks, etc., we were home! We were exhausted.
We said to ourselves, we really, really enjoyed our stay in China, and the experience there was unforgettable; but it was
nice to be home at last!
So we began a new journey in the U.S. with our daughter Sadira. August 18, 1999.
We've been home for almost 6 weeks now. Sadira's adjustment has been amazingly smooth. She continues to cling
to mommy. However, ever since she started day care about two weeks ago, she couldn't wait to get into the arms of daddy when
he goes to pick her up at the end of the day.
About 2 weeks at home, we realized that she wasn't able to crawl, although she walked with the help of our
"fingers" that she holds on to. We showed her how to crawl, and it took her less than 5 minutes to begin crawling all over
the house. We were glad we "child-proved" the entire house before we left for China. On the second day of her day care, we
came home and I set her down to her toys, as usual. The next thing I know she disappeared from my sight, only to find out
that she's already at my foot, pulling on my pants. Apparently she walked over on her own. She then happily walked away, getting
into my CD racks, grabbing things from the shelves. I screamed to my wife, and we took lots of videos and still photos. Ever
since that day, she's into everything she can get her hands on. My CDs, tapes, and magazines are fair game to her little fingers.
The day was Sept. 21, 1999 (only about one month after we returned home). A memorable day indeed!
She also picked up her first "bug," apparently from one of the chidren at day care; and guess what, daddy
caught it too on the very next day... Sadira continues to blossom, and she's only babbling like a toddler should. We can't
wait until the day she turns two, or speaks a few words or two, preferably "daddy," and/or "mommy," whichever comes first...
