St. Anthony Today

Let's take a tour around the outside of the campus as it looks today. We'll start at the corner of 6th and Olive.

The convent is now a Parish Center as seen in the right side of this picture:

Walking along Olive, this is the former girls' school---

Now we just about reach 7th and the corner of the boys' school:

This is the 7th Street side of the building today.

and the St. Anthony relief is still there.

After walking through the alley (nothing new) and turning the corner onto 6th Street,

we see a major change at the 6th Street entrance:

Since St. Anthony's has had empty classrooms and the Long Beach Unified School District

has a shortage, the district is renting out the old (girls') Science Building and using

it for a middle school. Let's look inside the gate:

St. Anthony students stay on the far side of the fence while the middle school students

use the side near 6th Street.

Continuing the walk along 6th street, we come to the back side of the old convent (now

Parish Center):

Looking across the street, we can see the church and the bus stop:

and now we're back where we began.

Let's go back and remember the cafeteria

and the gym (the shops along 6th have long been gone and there is a

parking lot in their place)

Ahhh! The Alamitos side of the gym . . .
