Fr. Jim Erps S.J.

I entered the Jesuit Order in 1969 and was ordained a priest in St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco in 1980. I've been a university campus minister since my ordination -- over 25 years. It is a great job and I love it.

My first assignment was to Santa Clara University and then I spent nine years at Loyola Marymount. In 1992, I was appointed Catholic chaplain at Stanford University and later served as chaplain to Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.

In 2000, I came to Boston College as Director of Campus Ministry. I never thought I would end up on the East Coast but the Jesuit Order had other ideas. I love the school. It is an amazing place. However, I can certainly do without the New England winters!

It is a wonderful grace to work with young people at this important time in their lives. It is also great fun to follow them after college -- to witness their weddings and baptize their children. Many of them have become close personal friends.

The 1960s were crazy years. It seems so long ago. But we certainly can be thankful to St. Anthony's for the solid educational and personal foundation it gave us -- a foundation in faith, a foundation for life.
