Lee has always liked doing a variety of activities. Ranging from physical sports to more leisure but still active activities.
Then there's the less physical but more mentally challenging activities that Lee also likes.
In the paragraphs that follow, you will learn about all the activities that Lee likes to participate in.
If you are careful or lucky you may even catch Lee in the act of engaging in his favorite activities.
Hope you enjoy reading about all the fun stuff Lee has done and still likes to do.
Athletic Activities:
-
Lee likes to bike: Lee is not an extreme biker but he has been known to put between 200 - 800 miles on his bike annually.
Lee has a hybrid-mountainbike because Lee likes to ride on the street and in the dirt. Lee once road in an MS-150 fundraiser
where he biked 110 miles in a 2-day ride from Rancho Cucamonga to Palm Springs. Lee loved biking along the strand by the
beach in Southern California and would regularly do 20 mile rides of a 30 mile stretch from Malibu to Palos Verdes.
Lee biked about 40 miles worth of the Erie Canal in Rochester.
Lee also biked about 1/3 of the loop in Yellowstone National Park.
Lee biked many of the canal paths in Denver CO.
Lee biked most of the Emerald Loop in Cleveland OH.
When Lee sold his first mountain bike at a garage sale it had over 7000 miles on it.
-
Lee likes to hike: Lee has been involved with a variety of hiking clubs in his life based upon the different places he
has lived. While in California, Lee was in the HAC-Packers Hiking Club.
In Rochester, Lee was in the Huggers Ski Club
(which also did a lot of hiking and other activities besides skiing). Now in Las Vegas, Lee is involved with the
Las Vegas Trailblazers. Lee has hiked in the Santa Monica, San Gabriel, Sierra
Nevada and Adirondack mountains. Lee has hiked in many national parks like Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Yellowstone, ...
-
Lee likes to camp: In addition to hiking, Lee has been known to go camping as well. Lee has camped in many different areas
of the country. Lee has camped in various parts of California since that is where he has spent most of his younger years.
Lee has also camped in Utah, West Virginia, Nevada, New York and some other places.
Camping is great when your well prepared for a sudden change in weather conditions.
You never know what can happen in the wild and not being prepared can make camping really suck.
-
Lee likes to rock climb: While Lee hasn't climbed in a while, he was quite into it for several years while he lived in
California. Lee has climbed at Stoney Point, Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and in some place outside of Toronto. Lee also
climbed at several indoor climbing gyms in New York, Ohio and Denver. Lee's best climbing was at the 5.9 - 5.10 level.
-
Lee likes to play racketball: Lee first stated playing racketball in junior high and then in high school and even in college.
Once Lee moved to Rochester he found another racketball partner and played there regularly for about 4 years. Lee is probably
a high C or low B player. Anyone up for a game?
-
Lee likes to play tennis: While Lee likes to play racketball more, at some point he started playing tennis. Lee is not that
great at tennis but he likes to play and will always entertain the idea of playing even though he will most likely loose.
-
Lee likes to play volleyball: A few times, Lee signed up for a co-ed volleyball class which was lots of fun. Lee also used
to play beach volleyball when he lived in California. Beach volleyball is the best!
But the sand has to be good, the sand at the parks here in Vegas sucks!
-
Lee likes to snow ski: While living in California Lee learned how to ski at the late age of 23. After that Lee would go skiing
at least 2 times each winter season. Lee has skied in California, Colorado, Utah, Vermont, Ohio and New York. Since there is
plenty of snow in the winter in Rochester, Lee went skiing most often while he lived there. Lee hopes to ski at Mt. Charleston
and in Lake Tahoe now that he is living in Las Vegas.
-
Lee likes to go jet-skiing: Jet-skiing is a blast. It is so exciting and fun. Lee has gone jet-skiing several times and loves
it every time he goes. Lee has jet-skied in New York, Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Florida and Cleveland. While you might think jet-skiing
is not that athletic, just try it. It takes a lot of energy to hang on and maneuver the thing at 40-50 MPH for an hour or so.
Less Athletic Activates:
-
Lee likes juggling: Lee's major hobby for the past 10 years has been juggling. Juggling is both physical and mental especially
when you take it far past the basic 3-ball juggling that many people are familiar with. Lee can juggle 5 balls or 4 clubs alone but has
passed up to 9 clubs in a passing pattern with another juggler. Lee's passion in juggling is passing. Lee has even started to write
a book about passing. Lee is a member of the International Jugglers Association (IJA)
and has been so for the past 7-8 years.
Each year the IJA holds an annual festival and Lee has attended 5 of them so far. Lee is also be getting involved with a new juggling
organization called the World Juggling Federation (WJF).
Lee also loves to teach juggling. Lee can also ride a uni-cycle. If you think juggling is not physical, try passing clubs for 3-4 hours.
While Lee lived in Rochester NY (a juggling Mecca!), Lee was an active member of the
Rochester Juggling Club. Lee is still the web-master for that web-site as well. If you are interested in finding out more about
juggling near you, try one of the links above or try the Juggling Information Service (JIS).
-
Lee likes bowling: Lee doesn't bowl often but he can certainly hold his own on the lanes. Lee's highest score was a 210. Lee
can score over 100 while bowling with either hand. Bowling is fun but it starts to hurt my hand after about the third game.
-
Lee likes ping pong: Back in junior high school I broke my leg and had to spend my P.E. time in a special-ed class until I was all
better. Since I could not run and play out in the field, I learned how to play PING PONG and actually got pretty good at it. P-P is a
game that combines some physical activity with some mental skills as well as the need for quick reflex responses which, like juggling,
is my favorite type of activity. While in the fraternity at college, another fun game to play was Beer-Pong. This converts the simple
and fun game of P-P into a drinking game which add to the overall challenge of the game. Bottom line though is, Lee likes Ping Pong!
-
Lee likes to shoot pool: Pool or Billiards is another game that combines both physical and mental skills. It also helps if you know
something about physics and geometry. On a few occasions, Lee lived in an apartment complex that had a pool table in the club-house.
As such Lee has spent more then a few hours playing pool and sharpening his skills at this fun game. It's also fun to go out to a bar and
have a few drinks with friends while shooting pool.
-
Lee likes to play basketball: While Lee does not like to run extensively, Lee does like to shot basketball. A little one-on-one or 21
or Tip-In or Horse or Around-The-World are all fun games to be played on the court.
-
Lee likes to ride roller-coasters: While you may not consider riding roller-coasters an athletic activity at all, it does get your
heart pounding and the adrenalin flowing so I've kept it in this section. In any case roller-coasters are great, exciting fun and Lee like
to ride them.
-
Lee likes riding a motorcycle: While Lee was living in California, back in the 90's, Lee bought his first motorcycle (YAMAHA Maxim 400).
Lee used to ride it along PCH (Hwy 1 along the west coast beaches) and up in the hills of Malibu. Riding a motorcycle also doesn't seem like
much of an athletic activity but like riding a roller-coaster, it can give you quite a thrill. Once Lee moved to the east, motorcycle riding
was not as much fun as the weather only permitted riding half the year (or less). Now that Lee has returned to the west (south-west), Lee plans
to get another motorcycle.
Mentally Challenging and Other Activates:
-
Lee likes juggling: While juggling was listed above as a "Less Athletic Activity", I felt it necessary to also include it here in the "Mentally
Challenging Activates" section as well. Anyone who has tried their hand at an activity that requires complex coordination skills knows that it can be
quite mentally challenging. Going beyond the basics of juggling you will soon find out that juggling can be very mentally challenging. The good news is
that working these skill improves brain function and there even proof. Some of Lee's favorite activities are those that are both physically and
mentally challenging.
