Rarely, you may find a hybrid of Mallard and Wood Duck, as with this male,
taken Nov. 8, 2008 Portland, OR.

On 8-21-07 all our area Wood Ducks are in drab, "eclipse"
plumage. This one among them appears to be a male Mandarin Duck, non-native to our region (but of the same genus, "Aix".)

below: Gadwall

I tried something a little different with the Common Merganser pair.
This is actually a composite of separate frames of the male and female shot in the relative locations shown, but several minutes
apart. They wouldn't stick together and pose for me!

I thought this Lesser Scaup resting made a nice black & white shot.

Bufflehead, male.

Mallard hen (possibly Pintail or hybrid) was with one drake (male).

This male Bufflehead may be my first Black & White photo posted.
