Salamander News

October 10, 2000:

Several species of mold have overtaken this website.  In case anyone's still paying attention, Salamander has been inactive since April 1999.  Ryan is now in Boston singing for a band called Miss Fortune.  The rest of the original bandmembers still call Seattle home.  For copies of the Catalyst full-length (1995) or the Spare Time EP (1998) please email Ryan (remove the NOSPAM).

March 31, 1999:

Just returned from Cape Cod where we played our first show with new bandmates Karen and Ben.  The panel of judges chose Salamander for the coveted semifinal slot in Rock 104.7's Rockslide 2 unsigned band contest, and we took home a load of fabulous prizes including a body-piercing gift certificate and a case of caffeinated water (Krank2O, anyone?)  I stuffed my mouth full of marshmallows and sang "Peter Cottontail" in an Unrelated Event after the show.  The semifinal round happens next Tuesday night at the Mill Hill Club in West Yarmouth, on Rt. 28.

Where were the tapers?  Setlist for 3/30/99:  Spare Time, One Of These Days, What Is And What Should Never Be, Cherry Tomato, The Harder They Come, River.

March 23, 1999:

Coming soon:  the official release of the Spare Time EP, on the new label What Kinda Records (release number WKR 002).  Expected release date 4/15/99.  The CD will be available at CDnow, and you will be able to order it at your local record store via a national distributor.  Look for a re-release of Catalyst to follow, with the same distribution.  Thanks to DiscMakers for making it really easy to start a record label!

Our West Coast tour will happen May 8-24 -- keep checking back for schedule.

March 6, 1999:

Thanks to MP3.com, our Spare Time EP is now available for purchase on the 'Net.  Try before you buy!  Visit Salamander's MP3 page to listen to RealAudio streams or download full songs in MP3 format. Buy the DAM (Digital Automatic Music) CD for $7.99.
(DAM CDs include audio tracks + MP3 files)

"Cherry Tomato" was posted two days ago and has already shot to #9 on the MP3.com Rock Singles chart!  This may be completely meaningless!

March 1, 1999:

Two-and-a-half years later,  the Seattle groove unit is back, better, and bi-coastal (now in Boston).

"You were sick, but now you're well again, and there's work to be done." -- K. Vonnegut, Timequake

New 4-song Spare Time EP available by mail-order ($5 cassette,  postpaid).  Contact Ryan for more info.

Songs:

Listen to samples of these songs.

Recorded December 1998 at Robert Lang Studios, Shoreline, WA.   Engineered and mixed by Aaron Warner.

With me (Ryan) now living in Boston, Salamander plans a tour of New England in early April.  Much new territory to cover.  We hope to get into a couple of unsigned band contests coming up, and perhaps play a showcase at NEMO.  Brian, Bennett, and Justin, if you're reading this, you'd better be practicing the old material.  ;-)

Sunday night, 2/28/98, I was interviewed on "The Cheap Seats", a new music program on Cape Cod's Rock 104.7.  DJ Cat played the new "Cherry Tomato" on the air.

New drummer Karen Teperberg joins the band for our New England shows.  I'm now the freewheelin' frontman and may blow a saxophone for a random solo here and there.

We may have to change our name to something like Salamander206, since the San Francisco Salamander is still active.  The two bands formed at about the same time...  We'll deal with that when we start playing in California, I guess.

Wow... I can't believe I found the disks with all this old HTML stuff.  This will be a fun project...
