Self-employed contractor since 1995 doing transcription of audio interviews, minutes keeping, word processing, database creation, proofreading, copy editing, book layout and desktop publishing.
Created a Microsoft Access database of over 2500 entries for SPJ's “Excellence in Journalism” regional contest; use the database to sort and track entries from newspaper, radio, and television journalists, and to maintain its mailing list. Create numerous queries and reports for the contest's director and those contracted to produce winners’ awards.
Prepared and proofread page proofs for books on computer-related topics. Used Microsoft Word templates and styles to prepare documents for page layout in Adobe PageMaker.
Used Microsoft Word and Access to prepare articles for CD-ROM publishing, and proprietary graphics software to incorporate line drawings and photographs into the product.
Prepared content for two CD-ROM products: “Microsoft Complete Gardening” and “Microsoft Encarta World Atlas.” This included considerable SGML-coding of text files, data entry into Access .mdb files, and image mapping of graphics. Downloaded successive build revisions for proofing text and checking internal consistency.
