Spreadsheet / Tracker & Exchange Estimator -- History
The Spreadsheet / Tracker started back in 1998.
It's a combined effort by fans of JoAnna Lund's Healthy Exchanges.
Gwena Hedland made a spreadsheet that she uses to keep track of her recipes -- which book or newsletter, what page,
category, etc. Recipe Info now includes Recipe Name, Source, Category (like Pies), exchanges, and nutrient info.
Lois Lee made a spreadsheet that was a daily menu planner that she could use to keep track of her exchanges and have
the spreadsheet add the fractions. Menu
Judy Mento loved both spreadsheets, but didn't want to have to enter the exchanges for the recipe more than once.
So the spreadsheets were combined, so that the recipe / food item information could be entered just one time.
DorothyB adapted the Spreadsheet/Tracker for use with Diabetic Exchanges in 2003. She is a First Place leader.
By putting the row number of the recipe from the Recipes sheet onto the Menu page,
then entering the quantity eaten, like 1 for 1 serving, or 1.5 for 1 1/2 servings,
the spreadsheet "looks up" all the Recipe Info,
multiplies the quantity times each item of the Recipe Info, and
enters all of it in your Menu page.
It adds up all the exchanges for the meal, and then for the day, and
banks Sliders, Optional Calories, and Points throughout the week.
The next time you want to use the same recipe or food item in a menu,
you don't have to type in all the information again, just the row number. Row Number Illustration
Along the way, we've had suggestions, help, and assistance from many other Healthy Exchanges fans, including among others:
Ann who has helped us with Step by Step Instructions to Download Star Office.
Cheryl von Kugler, Berit Lemons, and Val Scott who have helped with the typing of Recipe Info update files. Recipe Info
The Exchange Estimator was developed by Kathy Porter, DorothyB, and Judy Mento in 2003.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to these tools.
