-- Healthy Exchanges Lifetime Plan
S'mores Pudding, p. 275
Fish Creole, p. 259
Easy Lasagna Casserole, p. 258
(I made this a few weeks ago for my family and for my mom, her husband,
my brother and my niece. It was a hit with everyone. I got requests
to make it again.)
Dewy Mountain Strawberry Cheesecake, p. 270
(My family and I really enjoy "Dewey mountain" cheesecake.
It is real good. . . . I personally add strawberries with out
"sugar" or I put that [no sugar] pie filling I came across.
My picky eater husband loves it. so it has to be good.)
Norwegian Burgers with Mushroom Sauce, p. 263
(I would like to tell you all that we had [this] for the second time
tonight and I say give it a try. Different but tasty and once again
no hot oven needed and no running back and forth to turn the meat
either. I made extra for Willy and Ellie feeling that they were
cheated out of a taste last night. They were both giving me those
big cocker eye balls when I was making the patties today so I gave
in and made them one too. Two paws up from Willy and Ellie as well
as Bill and Rosemary! )

Sweet 'n' Sour Pork, p. 264
(I made [this] and they are really good as well. I added carrots
to mine to give us the extra veggie.)
Wonderful Butterscotch Treasure Pie, p. 277 Yahoo Access
(If you are a butterscotch fan, you'll be a fan of this pie.)
(This is in my fridge right now. I love it!! I am a fan of butterscotch,
so this pie was perfect for me.)
Cherry Kolaches, p. 270
(these are GREAT)
(I made these and took to my Tops group and they were a hit. Even
had some taken home to husbands. We have a few in our group that
have to watch the sugar, and it was just right. I don't see why
you couldn't add lowfat cream cheese, to the cherries before you
put them in the center. You might need to add a little Splenda
so that they are a little sweeter.)
Twice Baked Potatoes, p. 254
Macaroni and Cheese with Tomatoes, p. 262
Breakfast-in-Hand, p. 282
(I also like [this]. You take two slices of bread, spread one
with a tablespoon reduced fat peanut butter, the other with
apple butter, and put half of a banana in the middle. I use
light whole wheat for the bread. That one's nice because you
can eat it in the car if you're really running late.)
Grandma's Salmon Loaf, p. 260
(My favorite [way of fixing fish using Joanna's recipes]is [this];
it is easy, cheap and tastes great! I have made this so often I
can now make it without the book in front of me!)
(For lunch I'm going to fix another one of my total favorites of
Joanna's...Grandma's Salmon Loaf. I have made this so many times
that I can do it by memory.)
(Yesterday, we had [this]; it has 4 WW points; this is one of the
best Salmon Loaf recipes that we have ever had. This recipe is a
keeper. JoAnna you saved the day again.)
(Helen from this list recommended this one and I'm so glad she did;
it was fabulous.)
([We had] Creamy Cookstove Carrots (Grandma's Comfort Food -- Made
Healthy, p. 97), [this], and The Best Mashed Potatoes (Cooking Healthy
Across America, p. 329). We had these for supper one night. They
are all fabulous and have had on different occasions.)
(***** This is second or third time we have made this. Dennis and I
both love salmon loaf. This recipe reminds me of the one my Mom used
to make. We serve it with tartar sauce.)
(I have [this] in the oven, and I'm making Spanish Green Beans (Man in Mind,
p. 148) to go with it. I have made the salmon loaf LOADS of times and
it is yummy everytime.)
(This is one of my favorite JoAnna recipes. I have made it so many times
I can now make it without looking at the recipe! I make sure I always
have a can of salmon in the house just so I can make this recipe when I
get a craving. Sometimes I add a little cider vinegar to the mix,
started doing that because I remember my mother adding vinegar to her
fried salmon patties. Hope you enjoy the recipe; it's a keeper!)
(I made [this] yesterday and it was great. Believe it or not I am over
70 yrs. old and have tried all these years to find a good Salmon Loaf
recipe and this one finally succeeded--even DH said," Now this one
tastes good!")
(I have said this before -- there are a couple of JoAnna's salmon loaf
recipes that remind me of ones that I had growing up in New Brunswick,
Canada, and this is one of them. We served it with a tartar sauce, made
from Fat Free Mayonnaise, and some sugar-free relish (homemade).)

Lemon Rice Pudding, p. 272
(Just wanted to say I made [this] delicious dessert . . . . It
is so easy and so deeeliciious . . . .
The only thing I changed was when using dry powdered milk I always
mix it alone in the water, then add the instant pudding and gelatin.
Does not lump that way. Also added a dollop of cool whip on top…..
I was thinking you could use orange gelatin instead of the lemon.)
(Try [this]. It is delicious also. And easy . . .)
Bubble Pizza, p. 256 / 264
(also in Gear Jammin' Man) This was really good. I loved
the seasoning; although it was a little strong for Charlie--he liked
it still. We made it in the microwave with the TupperWave stack
cooker. JoAnna, Cliff might want to try this in his stack cooker!
It took about 8-9 minutes on high. No greasing the container;
otherwise I followed the instructions like your recipe. Just not
crusty. Good for keeping the kitchen cool on a hot day!)
(I made [this] for supper last night, and it turned out great. DH
actually had 2 and 1/2 servings! My very first attempt was a disaster
(biscuits weren't cooked right in the middle.)
(We had this last night. It sounded quick & easy, and that is exactly
what I needed last night. Well, it was quick & easy, and the bonus
was that it was also Very Good! . . . This recipe will be a repeat.
Probably each week as my son thinks pizza should be on the table
every night. Use Hunt's Chunky Tomato Sauce because it has the added
goodies of onion and green peppers. I think you would lose some taste
using plain. Very, very good! [Click here for substitutes for
Hunt's Chunky Tomato Sauce.])
(I used Ragu Pizza Sauce instead of the tomato sauce, spices and Splenda.
I baked it until the cheese started to brown (about 22 minutes) at 400
degrees. Good luck!)
(Love this one!!! :)
(***** This was soooooo good! Who would believe it was healthy!)
(I made this last night. It was awesome. I also used 8 ozs. of ground
turkey as called for in the recipe but went one step further. I added
the Italian sausage ingredients that I copied from here a few weeks ago. Yahoo Access
It was so easy and to be honest I wasn't expecting much. But when I took
it out of the oven I knew I had a new favorite. And at only 4 pts a slice
it's a bargain. I admit I had two, but I was low on points yesterday so
I don't feel guilty. I don't usually post any messages but this is worth
sharing. If you haven't tried it yet go for it, you won't be sorry.)
(That's one of my favorite pizzas! JoAnna did good with that one!)
(Love this one!!! :)
(Well I made it. Boy was it good! I made it as the recipe called for . . . )
(I have been using JoAnna's recipes for quite awhile now but never had her
spices so substituted store brand, Watkins, etc. I got some of her seasonings
recently and have been using them in some dishes I made before with substitutions. . . .
[This] was much better using Jo's Pizza Seasoning as opposed to the kind I used
before. . . .
Last night I made the Creamy Skillet Burgers from February 2002 HE Newsletter, p. 12,
and I had made it before using another brand of hamburger seasoning, and it was good,
but when I made it last night using Jo's Loose Meat Seasoning, it was GREAT! Even
my picky 13 year old asked for seconds and my hubby wanted a couple last night for
a snack. I have also noticed a big difference in dishes using Jo's Apple Pie Spice
instead of the store brand as well. . . . I used the Lemon Herb Pepper Seasoning on
vegetables and it was awesome. I am planning on ordering the other spices as well
since they really do make a difference!!!)
(I am wanting some One Skillet Meals that I can prepare and put into Rubbermaid-like
containers in the freezer, so I don't have to heat up the kitchen when it is hot this
summer. We don't have air conditioning, so I don't like to do much 'cooking' when it
is hot. I'm looking for dishes that are freezer-friendly, that I can pop into the
microwave to re-heat. Do you have a family favorite you'd like to share with me? . . .
Another favorite is [this]. This recipe will be a repeat. Probably each week as my
son thinks pizza should be on the table every night. Use Hunt's Chunky Tomato Sauce,
because it has the added goodies of onion and green peppers. I think you would lose
some taste using plain. Very, very good!)
(I've also started making the Bubble Pizza with turkey pepperoni and either mushrooms
or peppers -- haven't checked if that's better or worse in points than the hamburger
version, but it shakes up the usual meals a little. I haven't frozen any leftover
Bubble Pizza, but leftovers do re-heat in the microwave OK; it's just not as crispy
as out of the oven. I'm not sure what would happen to the biscuits when frozen and
thawed.)
(What is your all-time favorite JoAnna main dish recipe?
I also have a few recipes I make over and over. [This is one.])
Scroll down after clicking on this link to see:
Mocha, p. 290
(Have you tried [this]? Also, very good.)
Stuffed Graham Crackers, p. 294
(really good)
Tuna-Cheddar Sandwiches, p. 264
(The tuna salad recipe in HELP is very good, it uses some shredded cheddar
cheese in it.)
Scroll down after clicking on this link to see:
Paradise Yogurt, p. 291
(This is one of the first HE recipe I tried and am still using it 4 years later.
Crystal Light has such a variety of flavors it never gets boring and it's a lot
cheaper than the small containers of ready-made flavored yogurt!)
Frisco Salad, p. 241
Mexican Cinnamon Mocha Cake, p. 272
(Thank goodness I have to take this to a prayer group tonight, otherwise I'd be
tempted to sit down and eat the entire thing. It is so good! It will go on my
favorites list for sure. . . . NOTE: I dissolved the coffee crystals and the milk
powder in the water (in both the cake and the topping), because I don't like the
crunchy bits they leave if not dissolved first. I only used the 1/2 tsp of the
chocolate extract, and I substituted 1/2 of the water with fresh coffee (since I
had just made a pot). One other thing . . . I cut it into 16 (good size) pieces
instead of the 12 recommended. That makes each piece only 85.5 calories.)
(This recipe holds a special spot in my recipe file, the first time I saw JoAnna
she was making this recipe on TV. I immediately went to Barnes and Noble and
ordered H.E.L.P. and have been using JoAnna's recipes ever since!! )
(I LOVE THIS CAKE!!! It is sooooo moist and the topping is so sinfully delicious.
You're right. I could easily eat the cake myself also.)
Chicken Taco Salad, p. 257
(I hope summer never ends. I'm in love with JoAnna's salads. Last night we had
[this]. I thought the Olé Taco Layered Salad from Kids in Mind, p. 164,
was my favorite, but this one is better yet (is that possible?). . . . Note: I
used reduced fat tortilla chips instead of the corn chex. I sprinkled them on each
serving instead of mixing them into the salad. They go soggy very fast, and if you
have leftovers, the cereal or tortilla chips are disgusting the next day if they
have been mixed in the salad.)
Deli Coleslaw, p. 239
(***** Very good. I think this is second or third coleslaw recipe we have tried in
the past month. We love this one and will be having it again soon.)

Taffy Apple Salad, p. 246
(Now that we can't get Hawaiian Pineapple [Jello] any longer, I just use lemon and
everyone still raves about it! JoAnna
PS - I just served this at a party last weekend and it was the hit of the menu!!!)
(I was at that party last weekend (sooooo much fun!) and had forgotten that [this] was
going to be on the menu. JoAnna had several salads prepared for us and, when I got
to the "Potato Salad" I took about a spoonful. Imagine my surprise when I took the
first bite and it turned out to be Taffy Apple Salad! Wow! It was NOT Potato Salad
at all but was sooooo delicious! Others at the table did the same thing I did. They
thought it was going to be Potato Salad also and had the same reaction. hee hee It is
a great recipe and one I'm definitely going to add to my collection! Thank for coming
up with that recipe, JoAnna, and also for choosing to offer it that night!)
(Well, yesterday's party was a huge success. I made several of JoAnna's recipes and I
got rave reviews on all of them. I had to give several people [this] recipe. I made
The Best Baked Beans (Make a Joyful Table, p. 170), [this Taffy Apple Salad], Lemon Fluff
Fruit Cocktail Salad (Fast, Cheap and Easy, p. 95), Baked Hash Browns au Gratin (Make a
Joyful Table, p. 166) and Deli-Style New York Cheesecake (Cooking Healthy Across America,
p. 88). Everyone kept raving at how good everything was, and I was able to tell them
how healthy they all were and brought out all my Healthy Exchanges books. . . . [My MIL]
doesn't like complicated recipes and ones with exotic ingredients. I had been telling
her about how good the HE recipes were and finally had a chance to demonstrate to her.
She took several of the recipes home and I now know what I can get her for Christmas . . .
some HE cookbooks :-) Thank you, JoAnna for making my party a success and for helping
me to shed 46 lbs and feed my family good food at the same time. You are truly an
inspiration and a good friend :-) Click here to see Shirley's Menu.
Orange Jo, p. 291
(I used this for my son's high school graduation brunch. See Menu)
Southwestern Vegetable Soup, p. 236 (1 1/2 cups = 1.4 Points)
(***** This was very good. We only used 1 teaspoon of chili seasoning, but we add 1
tablespoon of Baco's which gave it a lovely smokey taste.)
Quick Spinach Salad, p. 244
(***** This was great. I was a little scared at first because of the Italian dressing
which I am really not a fan of, but Dennis sprinkled a little Splenda on the salad prior
to serving, and we loved it!)
(This was the first time for us and it is a 5 star.)
Grande Green Beans, p. 252
(***** This is another way to do beans. We love the beans this way. I never thought of
adding mushrooms and cheese, another way to serve green beans.)
Cauliflower-Broccoli-Raisin Salad, p. 238
(An old recipe brought back - I know this is an older recipe, but we enjoyed it very much.
It is [this]. I do not eat enough vegetables, and our Weight Watcher lecture was on getting
enough fruits and veggies. It hit close to home, so tonight I made this wonderful salad,
low in points and wonderful with stuffed peppers.)
(I made the regular version for Easter, but tried this healthy version this morning. I love
it!!!!!!! Very much worth a try!!!)
(I too made the old version for Easter. We love it. There's never any leftovers . The HELP
version is very similar. I'll be sure to use it the next time I make it. I'm sure no one
will ever know the difference, especially if I use Splenda. Thanks for the recomendation.)
(I made this for dinner tonight after reading all the posts. I added a handful of light
shredded cheese to the bowl before mixing. It was very good. Looks like I get the whole
thing though, because hubby doesn't like his veggies mixed with raisins. I think tomorrow
for lunch I'll add some more cheese to it or maybe some tuna, and it's going to be the main
course!)
(My husband's garden overfloweth with broccoli, broccoli, boccoli and more broccoli. Any
great recipes you can suggest. Especially if it uses a lot of broccoli. . . .
[This is a salad] that we like.)
([This is one] of my favorites.)

Chicken Breasts With Raspberry Sauce, p. 256
Do you have a family favorite you'd like to share with me? . . .
[This is] one of our favorites.)
Almost Sinless Sundae Pie, p. 268
(JoAnna asked that we list what our favorite pie is. . . .
Alrighty then, this is a tough one, but all time favorite would be [this] . . . . I never
have found one I don't like :)
Acapulco Gold Pudding, p. 268
(Well, last night I made [this]. I changed it a little by putting it in (yup, you guessed it)
a graham cracker pie shell, and topping it with Cool Whip Lite. YUM, very good.)
Cottage Cheese-Stuffed Tomatoes, p. 240
(I did make [this]. That is a winner in my book.)
