- Stroganoff Meatballs, p. 1 Back to Choco-Mint Pie, Healthy Exchanges Cookbook.
(I tried [this] that was a real keeper. . . . it sure was good.)
(I have made [this] many times - it's one of our favorites.)
(Just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in. I love this recipe,
it's one of my favorites. I think you'll enjoy it, it's a
keeper.)
(Ooooh, we had this yesterday. It's so good, and very easy to make.
Yum!)
(This is one of my favorites! Everyone in my family goes crazy for it!)
(The family loved [this], very tasty!)

French Apple Streusel Pie, p. 4
(Tried [this] and it is incredible. Not only is it beautiful to
look at but so darn good!!!)
(Hi: This one is definitely a yum. Its a ten out of ten.
(We liked it, can't you tell) tee-hee)
(It was great! It was a big hit!)
(I made mine with Splenda and it was GREAT - one of the best
pies we've had so far!)
(I tried a different variation tonight and it was very good,
and I wanted to share it with you. Instead of using apples
and the apple pie spice, I used the Lucky Leaf Cherry Pie
Filling made with Splenda and added 1/2 teaspoon almond
extract to the cherry pie filling. I did not change anything
else in the recipe. My husband liked it better than the apples.)
(We had [this] for dinner tonite. My VERY picky son gave [it] a 5
(out of 5) rating. Can't get better than that!)
([one of my] all time fav pies of JoAnna's . . . totally delicious
and I would be proud to serve [it] to company anytime)
(It's absolutely fantastic. And oh so easy.)
(This one is not CALLED "impossible" pie, but it's along the same
lines, and it's DELICIOUS, too.)
(Apple Pie and Cheese for breakfast -- now that's my kind of breakfast!
Scroll down after clicking here to see menu.)
(Could anyone please let me know what their favorite apple pie
or apple dessert is . . . .
This one . . . . It's VERY VERY good. Even my super picky kid
loved this one, and it's very easy to make. Looks good, too, so
it's great for company.)
- Heavenly Snack Sweet Rolls, p. 9
(I remembered them right away and thought they were really good.
I can't believe I haven't made them again; maybe I will.)
(wonderful)
- Scroll down after clicking on this link to see:
Taco Spaghetti Bake, p. 6
(We are having a potluck at work and the theme this month is Mexican. . . . I know
there are tons of good Mexican type recipes in JoAnna's book, but I would like one
that you have tried and really like. . . .
I don't know what facilities you have, but if you have an oven to warm things up in,
you might try [this] - A real favorite at our potlucks.)
(Someone recommended this recipe. . . . It was absolutely wonderful. A real keeper.)
(I can vouch for this one - it's one of our favorites and I've taken it to many
potlucks and the dish always comes back empty. It's wonderful!!)
(Just curious how do you measure the spaghetti? Do you break it up in tiny pieces to
fit the measuring cup? . . .
I made this recipe and it was excellent! The whole family loved it. I approximated
the spaghetti by breaking, then cooked it and measured the 2 cups cooked.)
- Cheesburger Chowder, p. 9
- Heavenly Hash Cream Pie, p. 11
(The pie is a white chocolate coconut pie which was also delicious; DH rates it at a 5*
dessert!)
- Chicken and Broccoli Alfredo, p. 4
(***** Dennis and I both loved this recipe. We cut the recipe in half and it worked
out very well. We both said we would have this several times this winter.)
([It] was excellent, and we are not sure if this was a new recipe we tried, but it has
been a while if we had before, and oh my it was so good -- broccoli, chicken and
fettuccine noodles just go together!)
- Chicken Pot Pie with Potato Biscuit Topping, p. 6
(I made this yesterday & it was quite good even though I made some changes. I browned
some fresh ground turkey & used that in place of the cooked, diced chicken. I also used
2½ c frozen mixed vegetables in place of the carrots, green beans & mushrooms. It was
also good warmed up in the microwave for lunch.)
- "Peanut Brittle" Apple Crumb Pie, p. 8
(JoAnna asked that we list what our favorite pie is. . . .
Our favorite pies are Butter Pecan Layer Pie (Sept. 1994, p. 11), Cherry Amaretto Pie
(Feb. 1997, p. 1) (we make this often), and [this]. JoAnna has so many good pies it's
impossible to pick just one.)
- February 2000 newsletter
- Cinnamon Raisin Bread, p. 7 -- bread machine
(How in the world can you lose weight with food that tastes this good? Have you all
REALLY lost your weight eating like this? I made [this] and felt guilty with every
bite. It is S-O-O-O-O good. My husband tried test tasting and was really surprised.
He thinks I'm kidding that people lose weight eating these dishes. PLEASE . . .
convince me that you are really eating these dishes and LOSING weight? This is
fantastic. Oh man, I hope this works. My taste buds are still tingling . . .
yum, yum, yum!!!)
(I have been eating [this] and it is SO delicious.)
(***** All I can say is WOW -- very moist and oh does it smell good while it is baking.
This will be another bread mainstay in our home.)
- Tex-Mex Meat Loaf, p. 4
(Tonight I tried [this] . . . uh huhh, Joanna did it again. Now you know I am really
wondering how people lose eating like this. Well, guess I'll find out.)
(Here's one that we've enjoyed--and I guess if you REALLY wanted to warm up, you might
use the HOT salsa and a lot of chili seasoning!!)
(Gram's been cooking. . . today; & my kitchen smells wonderful! Made [this]. . . .
[This will] be repeated at our house. DH's comment - "We are eating healthy
& it's good!")
- Chicken-Peanut Casserole, p. 7
(My all time favorite recipe is [this]. No noodles, but I'll bet you could use them
instead of rice. This is a microwave recipe, but I do it on the stove. It is soooo
good.)
([one of] the "most favorite" of my favorites)
(This was wonderful! We loved it! And it was so nice because it was mostly made in
the microwave! I threw the rice in my rice cooker and started that while taking the
dogs out, then came back and chopped and mixed, and the rice was done when I needed
it to be! I did add about 1 Tbsp Thai chili sauce (we like spicy) and some minced
garlic. MMMMMmmmmmmm!)
- Hawaiian Pizza, p. 4
(The pizza recipe is excellent. I made it for supper tonight. We had
severe thunder storms in Pa. today, and I was running late thinking of
what to prepare for supper. This recipe only took a few minutes to
prepare. It was so good. I also added some chopped onion along with
the green pepper. It is a definite keeper recipe.)
(My son loves pizza with pineapple.)
(This was great!!!!)
- March 2000 newsletter
- Pecan Rhubarb Crisp Pie, p. 1
(I love rhubarb (and can never find it). I had never cooked with it until I found
JoAnna. There was a new adventure for me. This pie is good . . . .)
- April 2000 newsletter
- Cocoa Banana Brownies, p. 9
(I was stirring these up at 4:30 am when I first got up. Last night I was going
through old NL's and came upon this recipe. I hadn't tried it before, and it
looked good. I was very pleased! Nice and moist, I loved them.)
- Bacon Brunch Pie, p. 1
([This] is great - DH did NOT believe me when I told him it only had two eggs;
it tastes like there are a lot more than that in it!)
- Baked Maple Rice Pudding, p. 8
- Country Potato Soup, p. 9
(I have made this soup several times and my family loves it. It is easy to make
and tastes like you took all day making it.)
- Broccoli Chowder, p. 4
(We found this to be so good, and very high in calcium -- 286mg. Now I know why
I ordered those back issues of the newsletter. There were so many nice recipes
I missed.)

Easy Meatless Chili, p. 7
(Another WINNER from JoAnna, perfect for colder weather and when you have "blown
it". Great with her corn muffins. I added the pinto bean choice, because I like
their flavor so much better.)
(Thought I'd share some great recipes I tried and my husband loved (the "real" test!!)
. . . great and hope you try. . . . Today, after my husband and I went golfing,
he talked me into stopping at Sonny's Barbeque for lunch, and I blew "12" points
on a pork sandwich, so the Meatless Chili for tonight is ideal.)
- Ham and Potato Brunch Bake
- May 2000 newsletter
- Scroll down after clicking on this link to see:
Strawberry Triumph Pie, p. 1
(in the spring -- So many desserts, so little time.........)
(now one of my personal favorites -- Somehow it did not last
as long as it should have (Jeffrey claims innocence.)
- Sensational Strawberry Ice Cream, p. 7 -- ice cream machine
(I have made [this] with Splenda and it was great.)
- Scroll down after clicking on this link to see:
Mushroom Alfredo, p. 11
(I made [this] tonight. It was GREAT! I love mushrooms! I didn't have
fresh, so I used canned, which I prefer the taste better.)
(I made this with whole wheat penne pasta, and it turned out great. Barry
picked at it; he said it was good, he just wasn't in the mood for pasta.
Men!! LOL)
- Denver Breakfast Pita Pockets, p. 9
- June 2000 newsletter
- Bahama Banana Cream Pie, p. 7
(am in the mood for [this])
(HEAR YE! HEAR YE!, Calling all banana lovers! If you love bananas as much
as I do, than this dessert is for you. I made [this] tonight for dessert
and all I can say, " I HAVE DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN". This pie is so tasty
and delicious that you will go "APE" over it. This is the one time that I
haven't changed a thing, except for the graham crust and the powdered milk
and water. What I did was to combine the two (POWDERED MILK AND WATER) and
let it sit for 20 minutes, and then I took my hand mixer and mixed the heck
out of it to the point of a creamy consistency, and then I added the pudding
mix and beat it until it thickened. The results were just fab. I guarantee
once you make this dessert and taste it, you will put it on your list of
favorites to make over and over again. My husband just went gaga over it.
I had to take small pieces just to savor the wonderful flavors and to make it
last. . . . I hope that all will give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
Trust me!)

Sunrise Pineapple Banana Muffins, p. 9
(My other favorite [besides the Double Chocolate Banana Muffins from
Fresh from the Hearth, p. 84] is [this]. Sometimes I make a batch of
each if I have enough ripe bananas. I pop them in the freezer and when I want
one I thaw it in the microwave as my smoothie is whirling away in the blender.
Has anyone else found that those muffin recipes make more than 8? I get 12 good
sized muffins from both recipes. I don't think my muffin pans are unusually
small. They look avarage size to me. Anyway, 12 is good . . . less calories,
more muffins!)
- Chicken-Broccoli-Potato Scallop, p. 6
(Ladies, if you haven't tried this one yet, do it!! I admit it didn't sound really
promising from the ingredients, a little ho-hum, but it's a sleeper!!! :-) Plus
it was VERY quick to prep, huge servings and you probably have all the ingredients
on hand right now.)
(I made a few small changes when we fixed it last night - I used 2 cups of broccoli
instead of one because I like broccoli and used 1 cup diced chicken instead of 1 1/2
because that was all I had. Plus used 1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper instead of
pimento because that's what I had too! :-)
(You are gonna love it - I'm eating the leftovers for breakfast :-)
([This] was great! Thanks for the tip.)
(Last night I made my first meal using all HE recipes. I made [this] and
Bev's Blackberry Cobbler [Feb. 2001 newsletter, p. 4]. . . . Anyway, I
have no leftovers today. My son is 15 and he had a friend over last night and they
both approved of the food. They finished off the cobbler for me and saved me from
eating the whole thing! All 5 kids ate and liked everything so much that by the
time my husband got home all that was left was licking the bowl! He got stuck with
leftovers.)
(***** Both Dennis and I loved it. It is a keeper.)
(Thanks for all the salad suggestions; does anyone have a good main dish recipe
with broccoli in it?
[this one])
(We had [this] last night and we both thought it was good. I did add extra broccoli
and used red peppers instead of pimento.)
- Ultra Easy Chicken Cacciatore, p. 5
(a [dish] of Joanna's that I love as well as the family . . . I made this ahead of time
and froze it in individual servings. When we went camping, I took a frozen serving out
of the ziplock bag, wrapped it in foil and put it on the BBQ to defrost and heat through.
Very Yummy out in the mountain air!)
- Southwest Stuffed Peppers, p. 7
(We had these for dinner tonight, along with a fresh garden salad. OUTSTANDING!!)
- July 2000 newsletter
- Munchy Fruit Snack, p. 9
(. . . . We then went to the Dairy Queen (ice cream, fried food,
awesome french fries) BUT I WAS STRONG!!!! I ordered a
grilled chicken with just vegys and water. Best of all is that I didn't
clean the kids plates. But I got home and could "feel" the sacrifice. I had
peanut M&Ms in the cupboard. BUT NO! I DID NOT EAT THEM! Instead I made
Pistachio Creme Fruit Salad from Man in Mind. And Munchy Fruit
Snack, got that one from a newsletter (H.E.) Got the creamy and crunchy and
yummy all from just one serving. Filled the urge. My point is! Keep
Healthy snack and salads like these pudding recipes made and ready to make so
you can kill the munchy before they kill you. then you won't feel like you
cheated. Cause you haven't! WE CAN DO THIS!!!! )
- Tuna Summer Salad, p. 12
(Does anyone have ideas for cold lunches?? I don't have access to a microwave. . . .
I just tried [this recipe that was] great.)
- Red, White and Blueberry Pie, p. 11
(I made [this pie] this weekend, and it was a big hit with my DH and DS. The
fresh blueberries were wonderful in combination with raspberries and a cream
cheese pudding layer.)
- Mexican Potato Pie, p. 5
(In answer to the request for tried-n-true dishes that we really love: I make this one
over and over! It's become a favorite at our house--DH & SIL almost ate it all by
themselves!! I usually serve it with fruity coleslaw, and lemonade (just a really nice
flavor combination that we all enjoyed.) . . . This is SO good; I use med. salsa
because I think it needs it to bring out the Mexican taste (but Jo says use any amount
of "fire" you like). I've begun using a touch extra garlic in the mashed potatoes as
I mix them up--just seems tastier to us. And I used some snipped red and green sweet
pepper (about 3 Tbsp of each) in with the meat--makes it so pretty! And sometimes, I
add about 2/3 c. whole kernel corn to the meat mixture before filling the crust: also
makes it pretty to serve, and gives you a meal in one. We serve it with a Tbsp. of
no-fat sour cream on top, extra salsa if desired. I didn't think the extra vegs raise
calories per serving very much--corn does add a few extra carbs, if you need to keep an
eye on that. I hope you'll like it as much as we do. Beats a pizza anyday at our house!
And just as quick to make. . . .)
(Made this today for my husband for lunch. Usually he hates instant potato flakes in
anything. He never saw me use them this time. We both loved the pie. He said it was a
keeper. I only made one addition -- a little Williams Chili Seasoning to the meat mixture.)
(Last night I made [this]. . . . It is absolutely delicious. My family voted it one of the
best. To the meat mixture, I used medium salsa, added 1/2 cup chopped onions, increased
the minced garlic to 1 tsp and added 1 cup of frozen corn. I also added 1/2 tsp garlic
powder to the potato mixture along with some salt and pepper. It will be on my weekly menu
from now on.)
(I tried the recipe posted, and I can see why you list it as one of your tried-and-true.
It's a keeper!)
([one of] the "most favorite" of my favorites)
- Italian BLT Salad, p. 4
(I am not sure if we had this before, but we will have again real soon. Thanks JoAnna!)
(First time we had this and we found it to be so delicious. JoAnna has so many recipes
to try that it is hard to have many over again, but this we will definitely have again,
as it is so easy to make.)

(Tried [this]. It was excellent. Will make again.)
- Southern Ambrosia Peach Crumb Pie, p. 8
(I think [this recipe] from JoAnna's Newsletters [has to be one of] my all
time favorites. I use . . . often and especially like to serve for company.)
