Copying Recipe Info from Posted Update Files




Recipe Info:

The purpose of these files is to update the Recipe Info in the Tracker. Click here to see what the Recipe Info looks like. Then, click Copying and Pasting to come back here.

To Get These Files -- These files are available either at:

  1. Recipe Info Updates at this site, or
  2. are posted on the Yahoo groups for Healthy Exchanges. Click on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/healthyexchanges/files/Recipe%20Info/ or in the Healthy Exchanges Yahoo group, use Files over in the list on the left, then click on Recipe Info. Click on filename or file you wish to download. Save it to Disk. Select folder to save it to. Save file.

    If necessary, Unzip the Recipe Info File:

    If you are using the zipped version of the file (file extension of .zip), unzip the file. Click here for help, if necessary. Then click Back to Copy & Paste.

    Open Both Files and Switch between Them:

    File | Open both the planner for the current spreadsheet and the Recipe Info spreadsheet (that you will be copying files from) at the same time to the HErecipes sheet. Use the Window menu (in the toolbar across the top) to switch between the 2 spreadsheets, or you can click on the rectangles down at the bottom of your screen. Scroll Down to Continue . . .

    Highlighting to Select What you want to Copy:

    When you download a new recipe file, you can pick out which recipes to copy. Method 1: Click on the tab for the Recipe sheet (HErecipes), scroll down to the first recipe you don't have. Click once over on the far left in the row border (where you see the row numbers). This should highlight the entire row. Now, without clicking inside the spreadsheet (which would make you loose your highlight), use the vertical scroll bar on the far right, and scroll down to the last recipe that you want to copy. Now, shift-click once over on the far left in the row border (where you see the row numbers) on this recipe. (That means to hold the SHIFT key down while you click.) Now all the recipes -- first one you selected, last, and in between, should be selected. Method 2: Highlight the entire row in the current week that you want to copy by clicking in the row border (far left gray/blue area). You may also drag down in the row border to highlight more than one row at a time. Excel users: while the pointer looks like a white cross, not crosshairs Star Office users: You won't see a white cross, but it must not be crosshairs. Both Methods, continue:

    Copy and Paste:

    Click Edit | Copy. Using Window menu (in the toolbar across the top), or clicking the rectangle down at the bottom of your screen for your current planner, switch to the HErecipes sheet in your current planner. Scroll down to the 1st blank row and click on cell where you want to paste it, in column A. Excel users: FROM another Excel or OpenOffice sheet, click Edit | Paste Special | Values | OK. (Be sure to use Paste Special instead of just Paste, so that you won't paste in a "link"!) FROM a StarOffice sheet, click Edit | Paste. StarOffice users: Click Edit | Paste. OpenOffice users: Click Edit | Paste Special | Unformatted Text.

    Fixing the Points Column:

    Scroll to column R (the Points column). Click in the cell above the 1st pasted row (still in column R). Click Edit | Copy. (You are copying the formula.) To highlight the Paste Area in column R (Points column: - Begin dragging in the cell below the one you just copied (in column R) and drag all the way down through last pasted row (in column R). Click Edit | Paste. (This is just Paste, not Paste Special | Values.) - Your Points will now appear correctly.

    Save File:

    File | Save As your newly updated current spreadsheet.
