Best of Healthy Exchanges Cookbook (1992)

Hawaiian Strawberry Pie, p. 144 / 156 (It was great fun to read which of my pies were personal favorites! But NO ONE mentioned the recipe I'm most proud of creating . . . Hawaiian Strawberry Pie (BEST OF COOKBOOK). In fact, I've instructed my family to include on my epitaph the following sentence - "She shared HELP with the rest of the world AND she created Hawaiian Strawberry Pie!" -- JoAnna) (Oh my, I sure do see why this is Joanna's favorite!! Yum! The two year old, who usually just eats the Cool Whip on any dessert, ate an entire piece of this by herself!) (I made myself a Hawaiian strawberry pie. Hubby wouldn't try any, but I thought it was fabulous.) (I finally gave this one a try tonight. You all know this one - JoAnna's favorite pie. Well my family totally agrees with her. Both my sons gobbled down 2 pieces and hubby would have too if I hadn't intervened. I knew I was doing some more baking tonight and wanted him to be guinea pig, so made him stop after one piece. I really loved this pie . . . [one of my] all time fav pies of JoAnna's . . . totally delicious and I would be proud to serve [it] to company anytime.) (I totally agree! I've made this twice in the last 2 weeks, and it's only me and my DH! (on second thought, maybe it's too-o-o good!) (JoAnna asked that we list what our favorite pie is. . . . [This] has to be my favorite. . . . It is absolutely fabulous! JoAnna says this is her favorite all-time recipe and I can see why! Her Triple Layer Party Pie (Healthy Exchanges Cookbook, p. 209 and Man in Mind, p. 311) "ain't half bad" either!) (DH bought a graham cracker crust pie shell on sale last night and asked me to fill it . . . got any ideas?????? . . . since they are now plentiful, how about [this]?) (My favorite all-time JoAnna pie is [this]. This also is JoAnna's favorite pie.) Broccoli Cheese Soup, p. 21 (My husband doesen't like broccoli either, but get this, he asks for the Broccoli and Cheese soup all the time. Loves it. Go figure! ) Bing Cherry-Coke Salad, p. 39 Chocolate-Pecan Clusters, p. 169 / 181 (I made these wonderful Chocolate-Pecan Clusters tonight for dessert. The recipe [also] comes from the Filling the Cookie Jar Sampler. . . . The only problem I had with these was trying to just eat one serving.) (I love these to take to work as my dessert treat.) Crustless Pumpkin Pie, p. 162 (I just wanted everyone to know that [this] is the VERY BEST of JoAnna's baked pumpkin pies that I have ever tasted. . . . It was so good, believe me, I couldn't just stop with one piece, and that was without whipped topping which I usually use. This recipe is a Thanksgiving dessert must! The only changes I made were to substitute the vanilla instant sf pudding mix for butterscotch, as to me butterscotch and pumpkin taste very rich together, and I added 1 tsp. of vanilla extract to smooth the flavors out. Judy, this recipe definitely deserves to take its place in the distinguished and honorable Favorites List. Thanks.) (Absolutely fab. I really wanted to have seconds, but I decided to save for the next day.) Scroll down after clicking on this link to see: Caramel Apple Delite, p. 130 / 142 ([This] is an apple salad with butterscotch pudding that sort of tastes like candy apples . . . . has yogurt, pineapple, marshmallow and peanuts and whipped topping. . . . I love this one.) 'Quick' Lasagna Casserole, p. 90 (My family really likes [this].) ([one] of my family's favorites) Scroll down after clicking on this link to see: Sweet Potato Casserole, p. 86 Banana-Butterscotch Pie, p. 153 (Another winner in the dessert category!! Served this to company and they LOVED it, as did everyone else - I thought with both banana and butterscotch it would be TOO sweet, but nope, it was perfection!!) Fiesta Bake, p. 87 / 99 Cherry Banana Pie, p. 147 / 159 (It is good.) Runza's, p. 86/98 ([one] of my family's favorites) (These were very good for both of us. A little extra work to get that meat mixture wrapped in the dough, but it's still a keeper for us. I love runzas, but Charlie doesn't like the ones at the local Runza fast food chain. He likes these.) Pizza Minute Steaks, p. 96 ([one] of my family's favorites) Frozen Lemon Yogurt Pie, p. 146 / 158 (Who would think that four ingredients and less than 5 minutes of prep (including getting all the ingredients out), could make something this good!!! WOW - I was extremely impressed - plus it's low enough in sodium so I can make this for my mom - very few desserts meet her doctor's strict guidelines, so I know she'll be THRILLED to find out about this!! :-) (Yesterday I made [this]. It was great and for anyone, like me, that is not fond of yogurt, you would never know that it is in there. I can't wait to try it with other flavors. This one is a keeper!) Fresh Strawberry-Banana Salad, p. 45 (DH loved that.) "Candy Bar" Pie, p. 153 / 165 Scroll down after clicking on this link to see: Rhubarb Sauce, p. 157 / 169 (Here [is one of] the new recipes Dennis & I tried yesterday. We enjoyed [it].) (Helen suggested this one to me and sent me the recipe, and it was great. I made it twice this month. I froze 36 cups of rhubarb so I can make more of the rhubarb recipes. JoAnna has several in her books that sound great.) (***** This is great. This is a Extra in Canadian Diabetic even though is says 1/2 fruit. In Canada, rhubarb is classified as a free extra food. This is the second time we have made this.) (Wonderful on vanilla SF, FF ice cream. I can just eat it alone, and 'R' says [rhubarb's] a free food, to make it better.) Scroll down after clicking on this link to see: Acapulco Gold Pudding, p. 133 / 145 (A few weeks ago, I tried one of Jo's recipes [this one] -- a pudding dessert. It is very good, but very rich, I thought. And at the time, I made a note that it would be GREAT as a frosting on angelfood or some other kind of plain cake. It turns out very thick too, so I think it would work just fine. And maybe you could save the almonds and/or coconut to sprinkle on top. . . .) Seafood Pasta Chowder, p. 36 (DH and I found we like Chicken of the SEA crab meat in the can. It is only one pt. for the whole can, and you that are following H.E. very low in calories. Does any one have any recipes for crab meat from JOANNA? What a hoot, just looked over and found one. Another God thing :) here it is!) Chinese Chicken Soup, p. 29 (The last couple of days I have saved up 6 1/2 WW points for Wednesday and Thursday [Thanksgiving]. That is after lowering my daily allotment by 2 points . . . quite an accomplishment for me. I usually eat every single point that I am allowed! I think making sure I have a good, filling, dessert available helps. Also a contributing factor is soup, such as the Chinese Chicken Soup . . . lots of veggies and low in points, plus delicious. [This] is my latest favorite!) Scroll down after clicking on this link to see: Rio Grande Dip, p. 172 / 184 (One of the ladies made one of JoAnnas dips which was great, of course. It's [this].) Mexicali Quiche, p. 81 / 93 (I have always liked Joanna's recipe for [this].) (What is your all-time favorite JoAnna main dish recipe? . . . I also love [this].) Veggie Salad Sandwich Filling, p. 167 (Wonderful) Cheesy Asparagus Bake, p. 107 Fresh Strawberry Pie, p. 143 (JoAnna asked that we list what our favorite pie is. . . . I like [this] best, but all that I have tried are excellent.) (My favorite dessert is [this]. My son thinks it is the Triple Layer Party Pie (Man in Mind, p. 311, Healthy Exchanges Cookbook, p. 209, and May 2004 HE Newsletter, p. 10). Grande Green Beans, p. 66 (This was a good side dish, and we will be serving it again. A different way to serve French-style green beans.) Tropical Fruit Pie, p. 140 (I have recently gotten back into JoAnna's great recipes and last night made [this] . . . . It was excellent - very fruity, satisfying - and used a graham cracker crust.) Candied Sweet Potato Bake, p. 85
