The fourth annual Windham Golf Tournament was held at the Westwood Shores
Country Club in Trinity on June 19. The day was windy, blustery and the
wind-swept course made any thought of low scores impossible.
Nevertheless, 31 teams turned out to fight for the honors and prize
money. At $200 per team, Windham was able to hand the SAAFE House a nice
little bundle.
The highlight of the tournament had to be the hole-in-one by Phillip
Jemison of Conroe. On the par-three 6th hole, Mr. Jemison, using a 3-iron,
powered the ball just short of the green and then watched it bunny-hop
straight for the hole and in!
Taking first place was the team of David and Bill Aschraft, Fred Rhea
and Robert Huey. Second place went to the team of Dale Story, Bill Thorton,
Shane Smith and Bobby Hodges while third place was grabbed by Jay and Jimmy
Powers, Richard Belovsky and Billy Buckmaster.
Other teams receiving prize money were: D. McElvaney, Ron Houghton,
George Johnson and Don Dunn for fourth place, and Tommy Homeyer, Jack Douglas,
Tim New and Marty Bolton.
The event was topped off with a gigantic prize give-away and a buffet
lunch.
