Is it July already? Only 42 more days until school starts back.

So I guess that means we’ll have to use that big $138 pay raise to buy all the new school clothes. It’s always something.

The 4th of July is coming up fast. The ultimate American holiday.

So as you spend this day with friends and family, eating hotdogs and apple pie (and assorted other foods) take a moment to ponder what a great country we live in with all of our inalienable rights and freedom of religion and all other freedoms that are allotted to us simply because we are lucky enough to be Americans.

Lt. Campos recently attended the Special Olympics state games in Arlington, which was a two- day event to include opening ceremonies.

He brought back tons of pictures and it all looked like a great time.

I would like to make mention of how extremely intelligent our very own Lt. Campos is.

While driving in the Dallas Metroplex, at no time did “he” get lost. But if “he” had, I’m sure “he” would have stopped and asked for directions. Men do that yuh know!

Mountain View also sponsored a booth during the 10K Fire Ant Run.

It was manned or should I say “womanned” by Officers Maddux and Mobbley with help from Officer Mobbley’s daughter.

The run began at 0700 hours, but the officers didn’t see their first runners until 0930. They sat patiently in the rain waiting to pass out bananas and oranges to each runner as they passed by.

Ms. Maddux says that several cars “stopped to see what they were selling.” I guess there’s money to be made in bananas and oranges.

This past month all of TDCJ remembered the officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. Here at the Mountain View Unit we had a beautiful chapel service where Warden Baggett and Warden Thomas spoke very eloquently, as did Maj. Nichols. Chaplain Nelson led us in a closing prayer.

A tree was planted on the Mountain View Unit in honor of the fallen officers.

Welcome back to Officer Coonce who was home enjoying her new baby, or was she home watching the “Price is Right”?

Officer Mooney is the proud grandma of twins, a boy and a girl. They were born two months premature in April. Both are now at home and doing fine.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Officer Berg, as well as Officer Riley whose son was hospitalized with kidney blockage.

We’ve been working this 6-and-3 work schedule now for a month. How’s it working out? Most officers seem to be happy with it, and three days off ain’t nothin to sneeze at.

Congratulations to the children of Officer Mulberry and Officer Miles-Smith.

They each have a child who received the Presidential Academic Achievement Award.

They were presented with a certificate with the gold presidential seal, a letter of congratulations signed by President Clinton as well as a pen. They are two very proud mothers, as well they should be.

The daughter of Officer Davila has also something to be proud of. She has won gold medals for the Killeen High School swim team in the 500, 400, 300 and 100 meter freestyle. She has also received her letterman jacket for going to the regionals. Her short term goal is to make it to the state finals and her long-term goal would be the Olympics. Good luck to you in your swimming endeavors.

To my fellow officer I’d like to say that although we don’t have a lot of use-of-force here at Mountain View, the potential for violence is always there. So as officers we need to be here for each other and back each other up on a daily basis.

Lt. Cockrell’s daughter has graduated from Hamilton High School and received $3,000 in scholarship.

So now Lt. Cockrell can quit her other jobs. Her daughter also was named “Super Centex Team Catcher.” It sounds impressive, don’t it?

Congratulations to Officer Posey on his recent marriage.

Were you trying to keep it a secret? I’m an “A #1” reporter; I leave no stone unturned.

Welcome back to Sgt. Mireles. You were missed very much. Don’t leave us again.

Once again the 1st Shift list moves. Officers Tucker and Rashot made the move.

It couldn’t have happened to nicer people.
