Hilltop welcomes July with the excitement of summer vacation in the air!
July also brings Lampasas Spring Ho Festival, which is always held the
second weekend of July. I hope to see you there!
There are some movements on the hill again. Mr. Rivera (2nd) and Ms.
Pearce (2nd) went to the education department. Welcome to 1st Shift, Ms.
Watson, and welcome back to shift Ms. Phillips.
Officer Chervitch (3rd) made sergeant at the Gatesville Unit. Officer
Lam (TC) is the new special projects officer. Ms. Casanover retired and
will be missed. We bid farewell to Ms. Ferrell, property officer; Mr. Bradshaw
(2nd), L. Shaver (2nd) and Ms. Thomas (3rd) who found a cooler place to
live Alaska! Good luck to all!
New officers are Wilson (2nd), Fedder, Marin and Thomas. Also welcome
to FSMII Love, Raymie Moore, inventory coordinator, GROM.
The Employee of the Month is Donna Henry, records office clerk. Congratulations!
The Hilltop Unit held a memorial service on June 9 at the Hilltop Chapel
to remember our fallen officers who died in the line of duty. These officers
include Daniel Nagle, McConnell Unit; Francisco Garza, Dominguez State
Jail; Travis Dale Best, Tucker Unit, Arkansas; David Knapps, Louisiana
State Penitentiary; David Shawn Cortner, North Carolina Dept. of Corrections;
Shannon Smith, Johnston North Carolina Corrections Center; Frank Mydlarz,
Great Meadow, N.Y., Corrections Facility; and Matthew Godwin, Greenburg,
Pa., correctional officer.
A special tribute was given to the employees who were actively employed
with TDCJ at their time of death. The invocation was given by Chaplain
Burton, remarks by Hilltop Unit Warden Nancy Botkin. Sgt. Corbett was in
charge of lighting the memorial candle and roll call by Hilltop Unit Maj.
Henson and blowing the air horn by Lt. Lam. Special tribute was given by
Hilltop Asst. Warden Emily Bond and coordinated by TDCJ-ID Victim Services
Officer/Project We Care.
Hilltop braggin news Ms. Whites (3rd) son Anthony
was inducted to the National Honor Society. Anthony had to maintain 90
or above average in all of his classes for the semester. Great job, Anthony!
Hilltop Unit salutes you and encourages you to keep up the good work!
We here on the Hilltop Unit are proud to announce a former correctional
officer made it to the major slot at the Burnet Unit. Congratulations to
Maj. Judy Sneed Scott, our former officer and neighbor. Congratulations,
Maj. Scott!
I would like to offer a speedy recovery to Officer Irene Fonseca of
the Connally Unit. Our hearts and prayers are with you and your family.
Cindy Cole would like to thank all who participated in the Scott &
White blood drive for her brother Dwaine.
Twenty-seven units were donated. Dwaine is now home and doing fine.
