Hilltop welcomes July with the excitement of summer vacation in the air! July also brings Lampasas Spring Ho Festival, which is always held the second weekend of July. I hope to see you there!

There are some movements on the hill again. Mr. Rivera (2nd) and Ms. Pearce (2nd) went to the education department. Welcome to 1st Shift, Ms. Watson, and welcome back to shift Ms. Phillips.

Officer Chervitch (3rd) made sergeant at the Gatesville Unit. Officer Lam (TC) is the new special projects officer. Ms. Casanover retired and will be missed. We bid farewell to Ms. Ferrell, property officer; Mr. Bradshaw (2nd), L. Shaver (2nd) and Ms. Thomas (3rd) who found a cooler place to live — Alaska! Good luck to all!

New officers are Wilson (2nd), Fedder, Marin and Thomas. Also welcome to FSMII Love, Raymie Moore, inventory coordinator, GROM.

The Employee of the Month is Donna Henry, records office clerk. Congratulations!

The Hilltop Unit held a memorial service on June 9 at the Hilltop Chapel to remember our fallen officers who died in the line of duty. These officers include Daniel Nagle, McConnell Unit; Francisco Garza, Dominguez State Jail; Travis Dale Best, Tucker Unit, Arkansas; David Knapps, Louisiana State Penitentiary; David Shawn Cortner, North Carolina Dept. of Corrections; Shannon Smith, Johnston North Carolina Corrections Center; Frank Mydlarz, Great Meadow, N.Y., Corrections Facility; and Matthew Godwin, Greenburg, Pa., correctional officer.

A special tribute was given to the employees who were actively employed with TDCJ at their time of death. The invocation was given by Chaplain Burton, remarks by Hilltop Unit Warden Nancy Botkin. Sgt. Corbett was in charge of lighting the memorial candle and roll call by Hilltop Unit Maj. Henson and blowing the air horn by Lt. Lam. Special tribute was given by Hilltop Asst. Warden Emily Bond and coordinated by TDCJ-ID Victim Services Officer/Project “We Care.”

Hilltop braggin’ news — Ms. White’s (3rd) son Anthony was inducted to the National Honor Society. Anthony had to maintain 90 or above average in all of his classes for the semester. Great job, Anthony! Hilltop Unit salutes you and encourages you to keep up the good work!

We here on the Hilltop Unit are proud to announce a former correctional officer made it to the major slot at the Burnet Unit. Congratulations to Maj. Judy “Sneed” Scott, our former officer and neighbor. Congratulations, Maj. Scott!

I would like to offer a speedy recovery to Officer Irene Fonseca of the Connally Unit. Our hearts and prayers are with you and your family.

Cindy Cole would like to thank all who participated in the Scott & White blood drive for her brother Dwaine.

Twenty-seven units were donated. Dwaine is now home and doing fine.

Any news? Drop me a line to 3rd Shift or email me at MYSTUFF@prodigy.net. See ya next month!
