If youve driven on the Loop in Palestine lately, you have probably
noticed one of the billboards sponsored by the Rusk Correctional Officer
Coalition (RCOC).
These billboards have been placed as a reminder to all of us that our vote
in November is very important.
It is not important who you vote for, but it is important that your vote
is cast.
No one can ignore the fact that, historically, we (TDCJ employees) have
not overwhelmingly turned out at the polls.
Unfortunately, when youre not heard from, your issues and concerns
sometimes become less significant.
A vote in November does not guarantee anyone a significant pay raise.
It will however remind our state government that we are concerned about
issues as they relate to TDCJ, as well as issues affecting our respective
communities.
Simply stated, casting your vote is the first step in becoming part of
the solution.
The RCOC challenges all units in TDCJ to exercise your right to vote in
November.
We would like to remind everyone that the final day for voter registration
is Oct. 7. Voter registration must be in the courthouse no later than 5
p.m. on that day.
We would also remind everyone that on Sept. 11, there will be a political
forum at the Palestine Civic Center in Palestine. This forum will begin
at 7 p.m. and will include candidates from the State Senate as well as
the state representatives race. Everyone is invited to attend this
event.
