The Havins Unit participated in the universal memorial service on Friday, June 9.

The ceremony had to be held indoors due to the much-needed rain.

Volunteer chaplain Howard Wortham gave the invocation, and Warden James Ragsdale spoke to those present. Sgt. Jan Clark then lit the memorial candle following the roll call of fallen officers.

Maj. Pam Miles gave a special tribute and asked for a moment of silence in honor of those employees who were actively employed with TDCJ at the time of their death. Volunteer chaplain Howard Wortham then gave the benediction. Following this service, USSO members planted two redbud trees in honor of Officers D. Nagle and F. Garza.

Congratulations to Employee of the Month for June, Third Shift Officer G. Treadway. The Counselor of the Month for June is Charisse Brown.

Thanks to both of y’all for a job well done!

Welcome to our two new officers COIII S. Munoz and COIII L. Hayden. We’re glad to have y’all on our unit with us!

This month, congratulations also go out to Intake Coordinator Matt Hancock on the birth of his son; Second Shift Officer I. Vineyard on the birth of her granddaughter; and First Shift Sgt. Jan Clark and Yard Squad Officer Jeff Beagles on the birth of their grandson.

Sgt. Clark reports that Tatem Thornton Clark was born on June 3, weighed 7 lbs., 6 oz., and was 20 inches long.

Get well wishes go out to FSMII D. Miller. We hope you’re feeling lots better soon!

Last but not least — The first Havins Unit city league co-ed softball team is doing great!

Wearing navy blue shirts with “Havins” on front in gray and their number on back in gray, this team is hard to beat!

However, they have had some unfortunate injuries due to their fierce determination to win.

So, get well wishes go out to Maj. Pam Miles, Capt. Troy Hall, COIII Robert Harman, COIII Randy Sims, and COIII Sonny Garman.

Everybody be sure to go and cheer them on.

Keep it up team!
