Most of the runners I have had have been only production/breeder quality. They are just as entertaining as those
that come closer to meeting the breed standard. Of course, their physical form has not been as comical as the top quality
birds. I have had good luck with legs and general health. And the prettiest duck I've gotten from a hatchery is
technically of poor color and very stocky. But Freckles lays lovely pale green eggs, virtually every day.

My first mail-order runners were fawn and whites from Clearview Hatchery in Gratz, PA. They arrived promptly and
all survived. Unfortunately, the one I ultimately kept was the smallest so she hasn't been a heavy layer. Now
two years old, she lays only about 2 out of 3 days.

| Double Spot - My fawn & white female from Clearview Hatchery |
My most recent mail-order production/breeder quality runners were blues, blacks and chocolates from Metzer Farms in
Gonzales, CA. I didn't have them shipped Express as they agreed that they would probably be on the same plane if shipped
Priority. So I saved some money and got alot of dead ducks. Only half survived the cross-country trip in
the middle of August. Won't make that mistake again! Metzer promptly refunded my money for the lost
ducks. But they couldn't tell me if they had shipped all my blues as blue or if one of them (Freckles - my prettiest
production/breeder runner) was a silver.
