History
I majored in Music Education at W.S.U. Stevens Point (now known as U.W. Stevens Point), studying Suzuki violin pedagogy with
Margory Aber and private cello and viola with Dr. Kenneth Sanford. I did my student teaching in the Wisconsin Rapids Public
Schools, working in choral, as well as elementary vocal and strings. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in May 1972,
and did graduate work in String Development at U.W. Madison from 1974-1979 as well as attending many National String Workshops,
when they were offered in Madison, during the same period, as well as several summers in the 1990s. The offerings in the workshops
of the 70s stressed the pedagogy of the late Dr. George Bornoff. The more recent workshops stressed fiddle and ethnic music.
I also attended the American Suzuki Institute in Stevens Point when the late Dr. Shinichi Suzuki was present during the bicentennial
in 1976.
I started giving private piano lessons on weekends in 1970, when I was in college. I later started teaching organ
and strings to private students in their homes. Around 1979 students started coming to me and in 1980 I bought a house in
the City of Wautoma and started my own studio. I have been teaching since 1970.
In 1994 I started judging W.S.M.A. music festivals. Over the years I have advanced from Registered to Master Adjudicator.
