Healing Scriptures

Pay attention, my child, to what I say. Listen carefully. Don’t lose sight of my words. Let them penetrate deep within your heart, for they bring life and radiant health to anyone who discovers their meaning.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.

Proverbs 4:20-23 NLT

From Joyce Meyers “Healing Scriptures”

“The Hebrew word for “health” in verse 22 (above) is “medicine,” God’s Word is medicine to all our flesh … God’s Word is His medicine … God’s Word is a healing agent, just as natural medicine is a healing agent or catalyst.  In other words, the medicine itself contains the capacity to produce healing.  Inherent within God’s Word is the capacity, the energy, the ability, and the nature to effect healing in your body.”

“The Word itself contains the power to produce what it says.  Just as when God said, “let there be light” and there was light, healing Scriptures contain within them the capacity to produce healing.”

As Christians, we are called to confess our sins so we may be forgiven.  This needs to be done first.  And as Christians, we may also confess God’s Word in prayer for healing, or for blessing, or for guidance.  But here we are talking about healing.  So pray, for example, “and with His stripes, we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 KJV.  Claim this promise in your life.  Confess the Word in your life. Here are other healing scriptures.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord.  “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  Jeremiah 29:11 NIV

Prayer of confession example:  Father, I know you have good plans for my life.  You plan to prosper me and will not harm me.  You give me hope and a future.  And I claim your promise in my life in Jesus name.  Amen.

O LORD, you alone can heal me; you alone can save. My praises are for you alone!   Jeremiah 17:14 NLT

He personally carried away our sins in his own body on the cross so we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. You have been healed by his wounds! Once you were wandering like lost sheep. But now you have turned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls. 1 Peter 2:24-25 NLT

I will give you back your health and heal your wounds, says the LORD. Jeremiah 30:17 NLT  One more example.  Father you give me back my health and heal my wounds and take away my sickness.  This is Your word and Your promise.  I receive your healing, in Jesus name.  Amen

The role of faith

If you read through the four Gospels, the relationship between faith and healing becomes obvious.  Don’t take my word, take God’s Word.  Here is a single example, one of many.

27After Jesus left the girl’s home, two blind men followed along behind him, shouting, “Son of David, have mercy on us!”

28They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, “Do you believe I can make you see?”

“Yes, Lord,” they told him, “we do.”

29Then he touched their eyes and said, “Because of your faith, it will happen.” 30And suddenly they could see!   Matthew 9:27-30 NLT

Please note, these men asked Jesus to heal them and He did so because of their faith.  Faith and prayer in Jesus’ name are always requirements.  But sometimes God also wants action from you.

The role of action

Jesus went into the synagogue again and noticed a man with a deformed hand. Since it was the Sabbath, Jesus’ enemies watched him closely. Would he heal the man’s hand on the Sabbath? If he did, they planned to condemn him. Jesus said to the man, “Come and stand in front of everyone.” Then he turned to his critics and asked, “Is it legal to do good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing harm? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him. He looked around at them angrily, because he was deeply disturbed by their hard hearts. Then he said to the man, “Reach out your hand.” The man reached out his hand, and it became normal again! Mark 3:1-6 NLT

This teaching illustrates, among other things, that Jesus sometimes requires action on our parts.  Jesus knew all along He was going to heal this man, even on the Sabbath.  But He said “Reach out your hand.”  And the man did and his hand was healed.  Jesus demanded action from the man for his healing.  Another teaching talks about the man who was paralyzed and had to be lowered by his friends through the roof to get to Jesus.  Jesus then tells this man to “stand up.”  This paralyzed man was told to “stand up” and he did and he was healed.  God may require action in faith.

Be persistent

“Keep on asking, and you will be given what you ask for. Keep on looking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And the door is opened to everyone who knocks.”  Matthew 7:7-8  NLT

Don’t stop asking, don’t stop believing, and don’t stop praying.

"Any injustice in this life is offset by the honor of choosing our destiny in the next."

Max Lucado, "He chose the nails," 2000, p. 76

"I'm convinced that many people would receive the miracle they have been praying about if they would simply turn their attention away from themselves, away from their own needs and problems, and start to focus on being a blessing to other people.  All too often we spend most of our time trying to be blessed. . . We should concentrate more on being a blessing than trying to be blessed."
Pastor Joel Osteen, "Living Your Best Life Now," Warner Faith, 2004, p. 226.
