Welcome to the Rtrout Home Page!

What is Troutco?

You've heard the expression "Jack of All Trades" right? More often that not, it's used to describe someone who is able to do a lot of things, but probably doesn't do any one thing well. In an age of specialization, it's generally a courteous put-down of someone who "hasn't found their niche."

Well, Troutco was formed with the philosophy that a diversification of skills, ideas and the ability to see the "big picture" is a positive asset.

I'll be honest. Troutco is me, Larry Deckel. It's an umbrella organization encompassing a broad range of vocations and consulting activities I am involved in. I've worked in Arts and Entertainment for many years, and all the while found opportunities to introduce technology to the workplace. In recent years, I've been working with Corporate clients, and drawing on my "creative" background to provide non-traditional solutions. This blending of right-brain and left-brain skills is the antithesis of the current trend towards specialization, but I can tell you this - it yields results! Troutco solves problems!

Many Hats

HatsWhen people ask me what I do, I'm never sure exactly how to answer.

I do a lot of things!

I work as a director of live theatre.

I write, as well as edit and "doctor" the writings of others.

I develop and help others develop scripts, projects, and productions.

I teach quite a bit, privately and within Universities and teaching institutions.

Companies like CIGNA HealthCare have used my services for several years in their Marketing and Communications Department as an Alternate Media Specialist. I've done graphics design and public relations.

A lot of the work I do in the community falls into the arena of Project Management. I've organized large-scale events such as LA Works Day and the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.

It all stems from my directorial background. I'm able to organize large amounts of information toward a clearly defined goal. And I'm able to communicate effectively with people who may work and/or think in a broad range of styles.

Feel free to look at my General Resume for full details.

In my career I've often chosen to step into workplaces that are completely foreign to me. I relish the opportunity to see how different "work cultures" function. I may not know how things work when I first step into a new environment, but wherever I've worked I quickly become known as The Guy Who Gets Things Done.

What do you mean by Diversified Creative Enterprises?

Frankly... everything is creative if you approach it in the right way.
It means I'm interested in projects that require creative solutions. If someone needs a solution to a work-place problem, Troutco is a potential resource towards solving it.

Diversified? Well, I've worked in a broad range of environments. These include but are not limited to:

We (meaning myself and whatever associates I may bring into a project to move it toward resolution) can tackle a broad range of projects. Troutco is at its best working in environments where new resources and new solutions are needed. We find ways to work faster, smarter, and to meet goals. We strive for efficient solutions to complex problems to remove redundancy and wasted effort and replace that with productivity and efficiency.

There's a better way to do virtually everything if you care to find it. And the pay-off for finding it can be anything from company cost-savings, to better arts and entertainment, to a better world alltogether. Why waste energy complaining about how bad everything is when with the proper effort it can be made better!

And if you can't work seriously and have fun at the same time? Then, what's the point. Hence this web page... just a fun outlet for me to entertain visitors.

Is it All Work Then? And No Play?

Au contraire my friends. All good work requires playfulness, and what better place to play than on the web.

What does the "R" in rtrout stand for?

If you must know ... the secret lies here.

You Can Count on Troutco!

There used to be a counter right here to count visitors, but the counter has been returning the message: for quite a while now. Like a fine old clock no longer wound. The company that originally provided it no longer maintains it's service. I keep it here as a tribute to the limitations of technology.

Good news! I've just learned that Earthlink is offering counter services to its members. Never thought to look so close to home.

So, the new clock is now ticking. According to Earthlink you are visitor # . You are now part of an elite group of visitors. Welcome.
