Welcome to the home page of the Russell Scarbrough Big Band, based in Rochester, New York. We are an 18-piece band specializing in original, contemporary jazz. Because our band is made up of young, creative, and very active musicians, our format is the traditional "rehearsal band" workshop, that regularly rehearses new material and performs occasionally. We also have a core of four composers actively writing for the band. They are Eric Schmitz, Casey Dickey, Michaela Eremiasova, and director Russell Scarbrough. RSBB News:
04.10.07 • For a change of pace, we will be appearing at Roberts Wesleyan College on April 20 at 7:30 pm, backing up singer Steve Lippia in an evening of "Pure Sinatra". More information about this performance and tickets are available here.
03.06.07 • The Big Band swells to orchestral size for my Doctoral Recital, March 6 in Hale Auditorium of the Roberts Wesleyan College Cultural Life Center. All of my original works for studio orchestra will be performed, including the Concerto Grosso for Jazz Quintet and Orchestra.
10.20.05
• After a couple of months of rehearsals, the band is ready
to play again. We'll be appearing in Cox Hall at Roberts Wesleyan
College on Tuesday, December 6 at 8 p.m. Both Eric and Russell will
be conducting their charts, and we will be showing off two new pieces:
Russell's new arrangement of Cheesecake, and Eric's Separate
Ways. We also have some new soloists to feature, including Tyler
Gauldin on baritone sax and Joe Manis on tenor.
02.09.05 • The venue for this Friday's concert was erroneously listed as Fairport High School. It actually will take place at Minerva DeLand School in Fairport. Please note there is a suggested donation of $5.00 for admission.
01.29.05 • The band will make it's first appearance of the year at Minerva DeLand School in Fairport on February 11th at 7:00 pm. An evening of premieres, I'll first conduct the Fairport HS Jazz Ensemble in my new composition, Checkered Van. The 18-piece RSBB will then take the stage with three new charts by composers Eric Schmitz and Michaela Eremiasova, and one more from our rapidly growing book. The band already sounds incredible, and we're looking forward to a great show! Sponsored by The Commission Project.
