Russell Scarbrough Big Band

About the Russell Scarbrough Big Band

Formed in 2003, is an 18-piece Big Band based in Rochester, New York. The band consists of 5 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones/woodwinds, piano, bass, guitar, and drums. Additionally, we have 4 composer/arrangers: director Russell Scarbrough, Michaela Eremiasova, Eric Schmitz, and trumpeter Casey Dickey.

All the music we play is original, contemporary big band jazz. The band was formed to provide a large group that would play only our own music, to be able to develop and produce it ourselves, and to perform it in public outside of the academic setting.

All of the members of the band are current or former students at the Eastman School of Music, ranging from freshmen to doctoral students. Together, they represent some of the finest young talent in jazz today.

Read a recent interview with Russell Scarbrough in Rochester Insider magazine, in which he discusses forming and directing a big band.
