I was born and raised in California and from an early age I had an interest in Art. In high school, I was active in the Art Club as Club President and won the Bank Of America Achievement Award in Art. After graduating from high school, I attended Diablo Valley Junior College and San Francisco State (now University) where I graduated with a major in Fine Art and a minor in History. I began a long career teaching Art at Turlock Junior High School in 1967. I participated in a few art shows, winning awards from time to time, but school work kept me very busy. I was Mentor Teacher for my school district for 7 years, developing over 70 art portfolios for teachers to use in their classrooms. I was also active in the California Art Teacher's Association and wrote several articles published in art education magazines. After 32 years of teaching I retired in 1999 and began painting in earnest.

During this time I have been fortunate to take workshops with a number of fine artists including Dan Peterson, Susan Sarback, Charles Waldman, Dean Packer, Peggi Knoll-Roberts, Ray Roberts, Robert Burridge, Reif Erickson, Janette Jones, Brian Blood, Tim Horn, Cindy Wilbur, and Gil Dellinger. I studied with Dean Packer, for three wonderful years and learned so much from him.   I enjoy painting landscapes, still lifes, animals and wildlife working with oils, acrylics, soft pastels, and watercolor. Painting "en plein aire" has a special fascination for me and I feel that is the best way to see the true colors of nature. I paint with a plein aire group, The Valley Sun Catchers, as often as I can. Color, pattern and design are strong elements in my art. I feel that I am just beginning to explore the world of creating Art and find each painting an exciting adventure. I am currently a member of the Central California Art Association, Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association, and the Central Coast Art Association.

My work has been shown in California galleries in Saratoga (CA), Carmel Valley Village, Pacific Grove, Modesto, Murphys, Sonora, Pebble Beach, Tracy, and Turlock.

I also enjoy paper arts and, after years of teaching a unit on Japnese History to my 7th graders, I have come to really appreciated the art of origami. I enjoy making boxes, paper cranes and other items using the beautiful handmade Washi papers of Japan. I am working on my third set of 1000 cranes. I sell my cranes at craft shows and in some galleries and boutiques. Look for me at the Lodi Sandhill Crane Festival every November.

From time to time I enjoy writing articles for magazines on art and the art scene in my area. I have published articles for Valley Views Magazine and Turlock Living. I was one of the Featured Artists in the Summer 2006 issue of Valley Views Magazine and my painting was on the cover of their first issue.

Together with 19 of my artist friends we founded the West Main Art Gallery in Turlock in April of 2003. I was actively involved in running the gallery as the Gallery Director until the gallery closed in August 2006 when we lost our lease. I also accept commissions to paint pet portraits and landscapes. All this makes for a very busy schedule.

A long time volunteer at the
Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center

I hand painted over 300 tile of wildlife for their Contributor's Tile Wall, in addition to taking on other volunteer duties. I love animals, nature, reading, traveling, scrapbooking, history and spending time in my garden.
