I cannot afford it, any more.
Furthermore, I've grown increasingly tired of ARRL's sometimes mindless
pursuit of objectives that I am convinced
will ultimately undermine and eventually destroy the valuable resource known
as Amateur Radio. I do not charge that the ARRL Board of Directors
intend to do this;
rather, their constant and seemingly endless pursuit to make the Amateur
Service better have had the historical result of making it worse,
much worse.

In the past, I have been encouraged to
run for and serve in capacities as important as ARRL Section Manager and
even Division Director. The nature of the duties is so important and
time-intensive that I've never felt that I could do service to the
obligations, and I have therefore demurred from consideration of running for
an electve position. It is not that I do not think I could be of
service, but in my heart I know that I would be anything other than a member
of the "good old buddy" crowd that has always made up the ARRL Corporate,
Division and Section management. Longtime friends, such as Fried and
Sandy Heyn have my undying respect for their longtime service--but
approachable people such as Fried and Sandy are apparently no longer
electable to these important positions. |
