We welcome all charity knitters (and other crafters). If you are looking for the pattern links please scroll down!

We meet the 1st and 3rd Saturday at 11:00 am in the Borders Bookstore Cafe at the Cambridgeside Galleria. Also note I have a tendency to be late, so grab a coffee, a table and start knitting I will be there soon!

These meetings correspond to adoption hours held by Saint Meows across the street from the mall at Petco. This means we get to knit and then give our labors of love directly to the kitties. There is nothing like the sight of the cats getting their gifts! Please join us and bring friends!

We will teach you to knit if you let us know you are coming! We will also bring donated yarn if you e-mail ahead!

The Saint Meows Cat Shelter is the only true no-kill cat shelter in the greater Boston area.  Knittin' for Kittens is a charity that calls on fiber crafters to create cat and kitten blankets, mats and baskets and cat toys for them.

Click here to visit Saint Meows!

Abused, abandonded and sick cats and kittens need your help!

We are seeking donations of:
  1. handmade cat blankets, beds and mats made from washable materials of all sizes to fit small kittens to extra, extra large cats
  2. handmade, sturdy cat toys, made of any fiber (they do seem to like the wool though) filled with catnip, please!
  3. Donations of washable yarn (worsted and bulky weight, any color) and sturdy fabrics, please! Yarn must be sturdy and clean.
  4. Donations of time to attend or organize craft events, making and hanging flyers, or attend the Cambridge-based SnBs for Saint Meows are held the first and third Saturday at 11am at the Borders Bookstore Cafe in the Cambridgeside Galleria
  5. and other things we haven't thought of yet! Or could your local stitch and bitch have one or two meetings dedicated to Saint Meows? You can make a cat toy (or two) from left over yarn in a couple of hours! In a recent Saturday Knittin' for Kittens one knitter made three cat toys between 11:00 and 2:30!

Mail donations to Knittin' for Kittens (MA), 71 Joy Street, Boston, MA 02114!

NEW!!! Catnip Fun Fur Mouse

Click here to order an inexpensive book of Braille patterns.

There are also patterns for cat toys in the (^..^) SnB Nation Book and in the new "Handknits for Kids" book by Lucinda Guy (okay these aren't designed to be cat toys by they are mousies and birdies that are stuffed), or knit any small 2-5 inch child's toy, ornament or sachet and when you stuff it add some catnip! Even finger puppets can be made, stuffed with catnip and sewn shut. And for heaven sake don't bother sewing any sort of case to put the catnip in before you stuff the toy, just put it in and sew it shut.

The first cat toy I made was originally going to be a scarf! When it was ten inches long (4 inches wide) I got bored. I folded it in half the long way, sewed the two long seams, turned it right side out, stuffed it with a matchless, cut up old sock and cat nip, sewed the final seam closed with an invisble stitch and watched Roxie the Cat go to town!

For cat blankets/mats you can use any infant or preemie blanket pattern, just use washable yarn.(Super Bulky yarn makes it go fast!!!)

Also, please, weave in your ends and do not leave any yarn or thread hangingCats and kittens love to eat yarn and thread and it is very dangerous for them!  Prevention is the best medicine!

Please make any financial donations directly to Saint Meows.
