The first question to ask is, are they licensed contractors? Just because they advertise, does not mean they are licensed. Do they even have a business license in the state you are building? Can they produce that document?
If they are not licensed contractors, that is a red flag.

Some states, like Louisiana, require Workman’s Compensation Insurance coverage for all workers. Can they produce that document?
If not that is another red flag, if you are building in a state that requires it.

There are some other warning signs that a builder may not be up to standards.

Do they have an actual business address? A place where they can meet you and show you examples of their buildings?
