When Sam and Andrew Whitten buy the recently-renovated Hannoway place, they hope to escape big-city worries and troubles by settling into a simpler life.   At first, they dismiss their dogs' strange aversion to the house, the odd and somehow sinister attitude of their neighbor and the vague rumors of a recent tragedy, but soon they are unable to dismiss the very real forces gathering about their home.

The ghost of a child cries in the night -- but is she trying to drive them away, or warn them?
