The Clothesline Project at Evergreen

Program Director, Partners in Prevention Education, (2005- Currently). Conduct street outreach and in-reach at locations where youth are known to congregate. Provide developmentally appropriate educational sexual assault prevention presentations to homeless and at-risk youth and young adults. Attend various community taskforce meetings to ensure community awareness of available services. Facilitate strategic planning meetings between youth stakeholders and adult allies. Provide crisis intervention, information, referrals, advocacy based counseling and case management services for sexual assault clients.

Trainer/Facilitator, Serving Marginalized Communities Training Summit; Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, (September 12-15, 2005). Conduct culturally competent training to service providers working with youth who are homeless and/or in the LBGTQ community. Topics covered include prevalence of sexual assault within the community, cultural interpretations and responses, grief, coping & resiliency, advocacy skills, roles when working collaboratively and boundaries.

 

Community Development Facilitator, Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, (1 yr. Contract). Identify stakeholders to participate in community process to determine how sexual violence happens in the homeless youth community and what factors contribute to it. Convene a series of meetings of stakeholders to determine underlying conditions, design a needs assessment, and develop a plan to reduce sexual violence. Utilize input of the stakeholders to develop a tool to assess the efficacy of the Community Plan. Produce a series of written reports detailing the Stakeholder Recruitment Process, Identifying Underlying Conditions, Needs Assessment, Development of the Community Plan and Development of Assessment Tool. Current contract entails logic model and proposal development, community negotiations, outreach to stakeholders, and working in partnership with homeless youth and service providers to implement an original, community-specific sexual assault prevention plan.

 

Rose Garden Daycare, Self-Employed Licensed Childcare Provider, 2002-2005. Provide quality daycare for children ages 6 months to 11 yrs. Promote positive social skills, healthy practices, and playful exploration. Encourage awareness and knowledge of spanish and sign languages daily. Participate in the federal USDA food program. Maintain accounting, food, and medical records. Employ and supervise one part-time employee. Rosalinda became a licensed daycare provider to allow her to stay home to raise her son.

 

Sexual Assault Prevention Coordinator, Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, 2000-2001. Conduct in-depth research of the principles of William Lofquist’s Community Development model in relation to providing sexual assault prevention and intervention services. Teach principles of community development and provide consultation support and resource information to Community Sexual Assault Programs nationwide. Coordination of networking and training opportunities. Assist with the recruitment and ongoing support of the Community Development Leadership team through technical assistance, individual and group consultation and training. Develop sexual assault prevention materials. Participate in the National Women of Color Leadership Project sponsored by the Department of Justice. Coordinate the Northwest Regional Queer Women’s Forum.

 

Sexual Assault Prevention Coordinator, The Evergreen State College, 2000. Train and coordinate peer advocates in Crisis Response Management. Develop on going educational programs which educate and inform faculty, staff, and students on issues surrounding sexual assault and domestic violence through the development of an outreach rape prevention and education curricula, publications, mailings, new student orientation and communication with students living in the residence halls. Coordinate educational and response protocol with Student Affairs offices such as, the Health and Counseling Center, Police Services, Housing, and the Campus Grievance Officer. Establish a collegial and working relationship with Olympia based organizations such as law enforcement agencies, local hospitals and Safeplace Rape Relief Women’s Shelter Services.

 

Advocate for Victims of Crime, Lummi Office of Victims of Crime Advocates, 1998-1999. Provide crisis intervention, information, referrals, advocacy based counseling and case management services for clients. Provide legal advocacy to assist and support clients in understanding the federal, state, and tribal legal systems, informing them of their rights in-order to provide protection for themselves and their families. Provide medical advocacy to assist clients in getting appropriate medical care and examination after an incident. Assist clients with applying for Crime Victims Compensation. Maintain confidential client records. Provide “24 Hour Help Line” phone crisis intervention during business hours. Represent the L.V.O.C.A. program in a networking capacity on related boards and committees. Facilitate presentation and discussion groups on domestic violence and sexual assault for all ages. Facilitate weekly Safety Planning groups at Lummi Tribal School and Lummi High School. Participated in the Lummi Youth Theater of Liberation Project.

 

Talking About Race Coordinator, The Evergreen State College Student Activities, 1997-1998. Assisted in facilitation of weekly discussion groups. Utilized Multi-Cultural Ground rules for effective team building. Budgeted group funds for speakers, films, resource library and event planning.

 

Rape Response Coalition Coordinator, The Evergreen State College Student Activities, 1995-1997. Worked cooperatively with volunteers, co-coordinators, and staff. Organized and implemented discussion groups, public forums, events, and art displays centered on raising community education and awareness. Participated in an on-going Community Focus Group with staff and administration to address community response to incidents of sexual assault and harassment. Implemented the start of the Evergreen State College Clothesline Project. Established T.E.S.C.’s Take Back the Night March and Rally. Organized and promoted 1996 Sexual Assault Awareness Week entitled “Drawing the Community Together”. Facilitated discussions on “Sex Talk: What’s Hot? What’s Not?” Lectured on “Sexual Assault: Why Should You Care?” Assisted with the production and performance of the multi-media play, “Drawing the Shades”.

 

Resident Counselor/Instructor, Upward Bound Summer Program, The Evergreen State College, Summer 1996. Taught evening Anti-Oppression workshops. Counseled “At Risk” youth addressing social, emotional, and academic needs. Assisted with building security.

 

Assistant Resident Manager, Housing, The Evergreen State College, 1995-1996. Provided peer counseling. Mediated conflict resolution meetings. Organized and facilitated innovative community education meetings. Implemented the Stone Soup project. Responded to community crisis. Monitored campus community for noise and safety violations.

 

Advocate, Seattle Rape Relief, Seattle, WA. 1994-1995. Studied anti-oppression and advocacy training. Provided advocacy based counseling on the 24-Hour crisis line.
