Poem of Harrisville

The Brackens work for Uncle Sam;

The Haley’s will sell you steak or ham

Between them, Jennings has the ice,

That you can get if you have the price;

Dr. Neely is next with plenty of pills For stomach, back, and other ills.

And T.N. Neely, Jr. is right side of Doc

With dry goods, groceries and other stock.

On Saturday nights we have a show,

Between Neely and Rogers, Bridges makes it go.

Rogers’ grocery is next in line,

Waiting to Set your dollar or dime;

Rufus Bridges has plenty of ice,

Look on the door, you see the price.

Harris has you six eight four,

With drygoods, shoes, and a grocery store;

Then Holland with a Barber chair,

In here on Saturday to cut your hair;

Then Pinkes’ Cafe, a good place to stop,

For hotdogs,burgers, coffee sizzling hot.

Jim Allbritton net to grind your meal

And fix your shoes from toe to heel;

Then up the street but still in sight,

The blacksmith shop, opens up before night;

Back down the street is Neely’s garage

Where your car can get a complete massage.

And further down a few more paces,

Is Wiley Bridges, shaving faces;

Then O.N. Sebren with flour and feeds

And other groceries to supply your needs

Around the bend not far away

You find two churches where they preach and pray;

And a beautiful school house built of brick,

Where they teach reading, writing and Arithmetic

We know our town but not it’s fate,

But know, its one of the best in the state.
