Pattern Receipt
The following pattern was developed at ChiliPLoP 98 as part of the patterns workshop process.
Name
Pattern Receipt
Problem
How can patterns be received for review when the authors are in
locations around the world?
Context
An easy way to submit patterns authored by employees must be provided
by the corporation.
Forces
Solution
Provide both an internet and e-mail method for documenting patterns.
The internet method can be accomplished by a web page with a pattern
form. The "Send" button can then be processed by a cgi or java
script to store the pattern.
The e-mail method would be to provide a pattern template that
is downloadable. The template can then be used by a word processor
to create the pattern. This pattern can then be e-mailed as a
text document.
Either method can be used by the author whether they have direct
internet access or not. If they have access to a computer they
can create the patterns and bring them (or send them by someone
else) to the local branch for transmission. Those without computer
access can go to the local branch.
Storage of the pattern can be accomplished by creating a receiving
area within the corporate pattern catalog database. This area
will be available 24 hours a day to receive patterns from anywhere.
Resulting Context and Consequences
Providing a consistent staging procedure will insure a timely
distribution of workshop patterns.
