Problem

How can patterns be distributed for a pattern workshop when the participants are in locations remote from each other..

Context

Patterns for a workshop must be distributed approximately 24 hours prior to the pattern workshop to those participating in the workshop.

Forces

• Timely distribution of patterns to workshop participants must be consistent with corporate policies on structured walkthroughs.
• All branch offices have access to the internet
  
• Only the specific patterns in a workshop can be distributed to the specific participants.
  
• All patterns must pass the workshop prior to inclusion in the corporate pattern catalogs.
  

Solution

Create a staging area for the distribution of the patterns for a pattern workshop. The staging area will be setup for each specific workshop and is populated with the proper patterns. The staging area will consist of a specific web page with links to the patterns. The moderator will then notify the participant of the web page either by e-mail, voice mail or phone. If the participants do not have direct internet connection, the local branch can print the patterns for them..

Resulting Context and Consequences

Providing a consistent staging procedure will insure a timely distribution of workshop patterns.
