On June 24, 2000, then CBO President Ron Fujii passed away
at the age of 57.
Ron was on the last leg of a week-long fishing
trip when he suffered a fatal heart attack while fighting
a 30-pound albacore. Three days previously, Ron landed
what later turned out to be a world-record yellowtail.
CBO member John Saito wrote a wonderful in-depth article
on Ron in the June 28, 2000, issue of the Rafu Shimpo.

At the time of his death, Ron was serving his second
term as CBO President. His willingness to help
the club in whatever capacity he could, his friendliness
and other personal qualities which epitomize Optimism,
inspired the CBO board to name the June scholarships
in his honor.
