December 27th, 2003 - Mojave Desert High Power, at Aerial Acres
|
While travelling down to San Diego over Christmas vacation, we stopped in Mojave to enjoy the hospitality of Mojave Desert
High Power Rocketry. Under clear and calm, but cold skies, we flew the following:
- "D-Dart" - a 1.3" 4-fin rocket on a D12-5, with streamer recovery. Great flight to high altitude.
- "Mr. Unlucky" - A BT-80 to 24mm ~3.5' rocket that's never flown without SOMETHING happening. And this was no exception.
Flew on a F21-6 - but the long delay tore out the rubber-band shock cord, and the body came in ballistic. "Bag Recovery"
- "Cee-Ya" - a BT-55 tubed, 4-fin rocket on a E9-6. Perfect flight, to the very edge of visibility.
Good thing the streamers are very visible.
- "Orange Bullet" - 13mm on a 1/2A3-4T, and a streamer. Good flight.
- PML Io on an H242 - 38mm. Very fast and high - great flight!
- PML Ariel on I161 - Great flight to 2414 ft, but the tube zippered on recovery, possibly because of the cold conditions.
- "Ranger" - 38mm body with 29mm motor mount, on an H128. To 3770 ft!! Both chutes deployed correctly, and the
rocket took 2 minutes to come down, at 30ft/sec! Great flight.

September 19th, 20th, and 21st, 2003 - XPRS - AeroPac - Black Rock Desert
|
September 2003's XPRS was a terrific launch - lots of high and fast rockets, and Certs 1 and 2 for me. Here's some
of the highlights:
- Flew PML Ariel on H128 (29mm) for my Level 1 certificate. Welcome to High Power!
- Flew Ranger - 38mm rocket with 29mm motor on F20-7 - great flight!
- Flew PML Io on H210R - fine flight.
- Flew PML Ariel on Cesaroni Pro38 - 3 grain - worked fine to ~2200 ft.
- Flew Ranger again on G40 - worked fine.
- Flew PML Ariel on Cesaroni J300 - 5 grain Smokey Sam - Great flight to 4200 ft, but I didn't see it! Too much smoke!
I also passed the Level 2 exam, so I'm level 2!

June 2003 - MudRock - AeroPac - Black Rock Desert
|
My first Aeropac trip to Black Rock.
Mostly, I flew little stuff, but I flew the PML Io on an F50-6, a G40-7, and a G80-7. Worked fine!
I've got to come back here with bigger rockets!
