'Roger Vincent Tari' became interested in music at
the early age of seven. After hearing the music of
The Archies", "Monkees", "Jackson 5", "Josie & Pussycats" , "Bannana Splits" and "Beatles".He formed his first group "The
Little Tigers" with class mates in 1974.Tari studied with serveral private teachers, including the Late Great, "Harry Layhe"
whom attended classes at the'Paris Conservatorie' .
"Layhe" was also a top session guitarist for many Pop and Jazz Artists at the time..It was during his teachings with MR.'Layhe'
Tari would become interested in 'Brazilian style' guItar playing and would go on to study the art of 'Flamenco' and 'Tonality'
as well as 'Composition'."Through 'Larry', I was able to express My feelings on a total musician level
likewise, never to feel shy to learn more about the 'Avant-garde' or My interest 'Indeterminacy in music' he was simply the
best there was" !..
With 'Layhe' , Tari studied the music of 'Jobim', 'Joao Gilberto' etc. During this time Tari bult a small home studio complete
with 4 track open reel recorder and began recording himself and local talent. Becoming tired with the music format of the
70's, Tari found himself reaching out for some thing different. Always a true fan of Rock, Funk and R&B music with influences
rooted towards; "Kiss","Angel", "Rufus", "Parliament" and the more Obscure ''Japan". But finding it hard to get other team
players who could aid in a band formation.
The first live Rock band formed by Tari was "Full Moon".The group played outdoor events that resulted in constant problems
and although most adults did not mind the younger crowds gathering to see these outdoor self made concerts, It was always
the police who did. These concerts were done simply because they had been under the age to play in Rock clubs.
So the alternative was to play Outside and make other people listen & take notice. After one year, the band fell apart, Tari
moved ahead to other projects..
The times were changing and Rock clubs started booking New and younger local talent. PUNK and NEW WAVE became a favorite for
the younger bands.
"Its interesting to think, You had Punk bands, New Wave bands and Hard Rock groups all sharing the same stage together".
About this time, Tari took interest in 'Underground' music which included both 'New Wave & Punk' especially from England and
and LA. Although, never turning away from his past musicial training or influences, his music would remain melodic & within
the Pop / commercial spectrum but,
always with a painted edge........
{In Tari's words} "Explore every kind of music, However,
Pop tastes better when its candy coated
and Animated".
These words make good sence considering tari's likes from the start. Listening to "Hanna-Barbera" Pop creations as a child
and the above mentioned 'Rock Bands' during his teens. It also showed in his writing, since he's from the 'Old School Of Thought'
respecting such Songwriters / Producers like "Andy Kim", "Danny Janssen" ,"Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart", etc.
"The first feeling I had from Punk & New Wave reminded Me of My very first influences". NY had the street
edge. England and LA had the made-up look. Together, it seemed like what I grew up listening to in the late 60's early 1970's.
It had the Power of Hard Rock and much more.Music of such bands like; 'UXA', 'The Runaways' ,'X-Ray Specs',
'Venus and the Razorblades', 'Radio Stars' , 'Sex-Pistols' etc.were building upin his record collection. He had embraced it
head on. The band he had at the time, "The Lady Lovers" born form Hard-Rock did their best to fashion itself with Tari's love
for the New music. However, it proved to be an ongoing stress with members wanting to play something they just did not like..
Becoming Overwhelmed by it all, he put together "The Hornets" which in the begining featured a Female Vocalist & Bass Player. However,
the recorded version of the band would later be replaced by Male vocals.
"The Hornets"played many shows with the most noted being at 'CBGB's' in late 1978.
The band had a great following, thanks to their 'Comic book' look & 'Bubblgum Pop/Punk' style. Playing along side of bands
of the time such as; "The Stimulaters" , "The Colors" etc. But because Tari went more towards Female vocals for the group
he became unhappy with the results of having a male singer and after several auditions, were never able to find the'Comic
strip'Female singer they were looking for. "The Hornets called it a day. The Years from 1979 to1982 all happened quick. Music
was on a rocket ride. With the blink of an eye, Music was changing its style and sound. Being a fan of "Horror" movies, and
'Rock-a-Billy" bands such as; the 'Misfits' and Englands 'Meteors' Tari decided to take his comic book style and mold it
into a some what "Rock-a Billy / "Punk Wave" setting.
(It would be Great if I could just hold on to one type of music, But since I love many,I wanted to fuse all My influences
together and see what the result would be)
The result was the release of the 'Horror Show' 45 on 'OMNI' records in 1981 *stock # 934614.
Under the band name "Fractured Glass".The strange thing about this single was that, side one was an electronic effort with
the B side sounding more like the "Cramps".During the middle 1981 Tari became a member of the "Shock Rock" band 'The Mad Daddys'.
as an originial member Tari says,
(it was simply a magicial time to be doing what we were doing back then)..
Tari left for London before 'The Mad daddys' went on to gain fame. Keeping his promise to release one more single for the
OMNI label, this time the music would become more electronic Synth powered ..
This would be the second trip to London, as Tari had been there just the year before in 81 prior to joining 'The Mad Daddys'.
His escape this time would prove to be most beneficial do to the fact that the new single, again as "Fractured Glass" with
songs, "Push Up Push Down" b/w "Love In Motion"- OMNI records 45 *stock# FE-12 gained great reviews, And although this time
the group had now become a duo, interest for the project was starting to peak. The now Legendary Author, Writer and Journalist
'Mick Mercer' who then was editorial writer for 'ZIG ZAG' Magazine had taken a liking to the electronic duo and assembled
an interview & Photo session for the very next issue.
It would be sometime before Tari would return statside. Other interviews for such magazines;
'Le Electronik' (France) and the indie British 'Goth' publication, 'London Underground' also took place.
Once back to the states, the Duo played a handful of shows with support drummer. The single was being played on 'Collage' raidio
stations and live on air
interviews followed, The band were to return to
London as a deal with 'Rough Trade" was in the works. However do to personial issues with long
time bass & synth player 'JJ. Johnstone', a split was inevitable thus, leaving "Fractured Glass" a prominent memory for those
who have been fans of the band.
Although, Tari never made an official end to the "Fractured Glass" saga it has been some 20 years since anything new as surfaced.
It should be noted that that both 'OMNI' singles are long out of print as is the tape only version released in 1983 by the
band itself. The second 45 has been spotted at record fairs for about $30 dollars. This being the 'OMNI' 7 inch Vinyl release
*stock # FE-12.
The music of 'Fractured Glass'' was most difficult to categorize as its styles were for the most part, derived from everything;
'Dark and Bizarre.
It is always possible for ''Fractured Glass''
to return to the modern millennium as
Tari has never sought closure for the
project. For the most part, ''Fractured Glass''
as a whole, never wanted to commit to being
just an electronic act and was very comfortable
being a full band utilizing guitar inside a darkish
mix of metallic soundacapes. If given the
chance with the correct members, Tari has
mentioned that a hopeful return maybe foreseeable.
Moving Ahead, back and between Melodic Rock:
It would be little time before Tari would resuface with another project and insted of going through great lengths to resurrect
and reform a new version of "Fractured Glass'' it made more sence building something that had stability and could outreach
to a wider audience. After breif stints as Guitarist with local Hit rockers ,"Kidd Gloves" , "Design" and The "Belestrieo
Band" Tari became determined to form his own melodic rock machine.
This new project was to be the big picture for what he always wished to create. Originially a guitarist, Tari had been concentrating
on Keyboards with his previous bands and wanted to get back in taking center stage as 'Guitarist' .
Utilizing all the elements of both past and current influences of music and shaping them as a solid foundation for a "Melodic
Groove / Fashion Groomed rock band" that would appeal to; Rock, R&B, and Pop crowds etc. Tari had enough written material
and thus, went on a mission to find others to aid in forming his dream band, "Winter".
During its span, "Winter" became a revolving door for many musicians. It was the longest and most concentrated on by Tari
and is still fthe project Tari would consider revamping. More then 30 musicians had made their way through as members of
the band at one time or another. Members of; "Chained Angel", "Areil", "Sweet Savage", "Pierce", "WickedSin", "Angelz", "Americade",
"Lush" and "June Bug" etc. all passed through as members. Oddly though, The "Winter" demo's sounded more toward Hard Rock
then its originial 'Groove/Rock' inspiration. The music of the times overshadowed the peak of "Winter" as directions in music
shifted swiftly during the middle to late 1980's. "Winter" left behind great master demos that Tari shall one day make available.
