I have been in genealogy since 1970, researching mainly the surnames of ALFORD, ATWOOD, ANDERSON, AYMOND, BUSH, CARRIERES, DAWKINS, DOWNEY, EAKES, EAVES, FINDLEY, FORTSON, GOODGAME, GRAVES , GREENLEES, HACKWORTH, HAMILTON, HAND, HIGGINBOTHAM, HURST, JACK, JAMES, KILGORE, McINVALE, McLEMORE, NORSWORTHY, PILGRIM, RADFORD, ROSS, SATTERWHITE, SCOTT , (Subscribe to free STANFORD E-mail Newsletter) , TRUSSELL, WALTERS, WHITWORTH, VICK & YANCEY.
I no longer publish the following surname quarterlies: DOWNEY DIGGINGS, PILGRIMS' PROGRESS, RADFORD RAMBLINGS and STANFORD SAGAS, since all have mailing lists. Now I publish several free web links E-mail periodicals on Genealogy, Computers, Native Americans and several other minor topics called GLEANINGS.
Some great websites for books, data and researching single surnames is Willow Bend Books , Everton's Genealogical Helper, Barbara Renick's Links, and Richard Wilson'sGenealogy Related Internet Sites . I am the webmaster for the Greene County AL GenWeb and Harbor Chapter CASSAR sites. (See attached page for more Hot Genealogy Sites, Finding New Links, Resources for Writers and my State Archives Web List.)
I belong to the Orange County CA Genealogical Society (OCCGS) and the Whittier Area Genealogy Society (WAGS). OCCGS recently started a Web Page, similar to our neighbor societies, SOCCGS , GSNOCC, and QHGS. Every year, I attend the big Jamboree, sponsored by the Southern California Genealogical Society . It has many vendor booths and great lectures on timely topics.
I am particularly interested in the Revolutionary War (Sons of the American Revolution & Daughters of the American Revolution), the Civil War (Genealogy and the American Civil War ), and doing research using the LDS Research Guides. For several years, I have used the computer genealogy program, FamilySearch - PAF , but now I also use a related Windows program, Ancestral Quest . I have converted this family data into book form using Genbook.
My favorite Genealogy Web sites are the FEEFHS and the Alabama Department of Archives and History page. But I also use some great resources, such as the WWW GENEALOGY RESOURCES, FamilySearch, The American Family Immigration History Center , Web References , RootsWeb, Helm's Genealogy Toolbox, Cyndi's List, The Genealogy Homepage, Carlberg Press, Hamrick Surname Maps, and the U.S. GenWeb Project .
