Coaching, Referee and Competition Experience
2002-2009
Fencing Instructor, Piedmont Recreation Center (four classes per week, 50 fencers, ages 8-12); coach, Piedmont Fencing Crew (started Fall, 2005), a Boy Scouts of America Venturing fencing club (28 fencers, ages 13-18). In our first year, our half-dozen fencers earned eight medals and two Youth-12 fencers, one epee, one sabre, earned National points in both Super Youth and U.S. Summer National Championships in the 2005-06 season. In the 2008-09 season we qualified a sabreur to Junior Olympics, the Junior team qualified for Summer Nationals in the Senior Team Sabre event, and one epeeist qualifed for Summer Nationals. We have fencers competing in all weapons, from ages 11-17 and have graduates of our program in Stanford and Chico State fencing programs. I have passed over 600 students, aged 8-18, through my camps and classes since Sepember 2002.2002-2006 Convent of the Sacred Heart and Stuart Hall high schools in San Francisco (12 fencers) and Department of Sports Education, University of San Francisco; coach, USF Fencing Club; assistant coach, Massialas Foundation.
Earned United States Fencing Association referee ratings in all three weapons (foil & epee-7, Sabre-10), officiated at the 2009 NCAA regional Championships at Stanford; in 2007 officiated at the USFA North American Circuit in Tucson as well as many other local and regional events.
Ranked 16th in the United States in Men's Veterans Foil and 19 in Mens Foil, ages 40-49 at the start of the 2008-09 season. Earned E-09 rating in Sabre in 2009, renewed my C rating in 2008 in Foil and earned a D rating in Epee in 2006
Captain Halberstadt Mens Foil Team, 2004, 2005, 2006, for divisional championships, earning gold and bronze medals in '04 and '05. Captain, Halberstadt Mens Team Foil, 2003 Pacific Coast Championships, bronze medalists. Finished fifteenth of out of over seventy foilists in the 2003-2004 Men's Foil Bay Cup series. Finished second in NorCal Men's Foil Divisional Championship and Men's Sabre Divisional Championship, 2003; seeded 4th at 2002 Pacific Coast Championships, the only fencer to beat the champion that day. Training in foil and sabre at Halberstadt under Former USSR National Team member Peter Ignatov and Stanford fencing club under Olympian George Pogasov. Earned 14 medals in foil, epee and sabre.
1999-2001
Held seminars and gave private lessons as a coach and managed the USF Fencing Club. As a competitor, won the Divisional Sabre Championship two years running (2000-2001) and took third place at the Northern California Divisional Foil Championships (2001). Fenced foil and sabre at Pacific Coast Championships (April, 2001) and Division One Team Sabre at National Championships (July, 2001). Fenced foil and sabre at the Palm Springs National Cup event (December, 2000). Earned 63 medals, swords, and other prizes to date.1998-99

Competed in 1998 Pacific Coast Sectional Fencing Championships, foil and sabre, was 1998 three-weapon champion, San Francisco high school benefit Put Up or Shut Up Tournament and and won nine medals for individual and team competitions in three weapons. Began training in sabre at Stanford Fencing Club under George Pogasov, the 1992 Olympic sabre champion.1996-97

1994-2000 Chairman, Nor-Cal Division, U.S. Fencing Assn. 350 members. Over the course of seven years I ran approximately 40 local tournaments and participated in the organization of many more, including the 1993 and 1995 San Francisco North American Cups held at the University of San Francisco, each with over 800 participants. .
