My Great Great Grandparents. Lenora was Etienne's second wife. His first wife, Francoise, died while giving birth to their sixth child. Etienne, Francoise and their daughter Philamena came to America on 6 July 1847 on the ship Alliance which carried them from the port city of Le Havre, France. Etienne's named changed over the years. While trying to have a name that sounded more American, his name gradually changed to Stephen Bavouset. All immigrants tried to find ways to blend into the American society. He also restricted his children from using the French language in the home. Many of the kids still picked up pieces here and there. |
